UPDATE: Car-on-side crash in Seaview

10:37 AM: SFD has extricated one person from what’s reported to be a car on its side in the 5900 block of 44th SW. Updates to come.

10:59 AM: One woman is being sent to Harborview. Our crew was told she was the driver of the car that went sideways. She is reported to have hit at least one parked car. This is on 44th just south of Juneau, obviously blocked until the wrecked vehicles can be cleared.

SPD told us there were no signs of driver impairment. Neighbors told us a second car was apparently damaged, in addition to the blue one shown in our first photo above.

11:58 AM: Officers just told dispatch the street has reopened.

This is just a couple blocks from my home, and somehow that makes it seem even more painful. I hope the woman has a full recovery and I send healing wishes.

Well wishes for a speedy recovery. These streets are so narrow with the cars parked on both sides, so going even a little fast can really go bad quickly. This was on my walking route this morning– big, quick response.

This happened to my parked car – it was one of the two vehicles that got hit. We moved my car to the side immediately after the crash, in attempt to communicate with the hurt driver. The driver of the car that flipped was cut out of her vehicle. She seemed okay when she was transported to the hospital. Rescue was fast and efficient – thank you to all involved to help.

This was my Senior neighbor. She does not speed! Infact she drives a tad too slow if you ask me. It was a fluke. In fact “an accident”. She is the sweetest kindest person/neighbor you will ever meet… Has been at the same house alone for over 40 yrs. and if you have a dog I’m sure you have met her. As she loves dogs and will chat with anyone with one. She is still at the hospital. So please be kind as she is mortified as to how this happened. (no she wasn’t on a cell phone as it was still at home). Thanks you for everyone that helped us clean up her belongings out of the street.

Thank you MP for sharing the circumstances of the accident. Upon reading the report, I had an immediate response of “the driver must have been either distracted (cell phone) , speeding , or both!” It rightfully put me in my place to open my mind and consider that there are other circumstances that are truly a fluke. I hope she has a speedy recovery. It sounds like you are also a great neighbor to have!
