ALSO AT LINCOLN PARK: Don’t go into the non-pool water

While the pools at Lincoln Park are about to open, you’re going to want to stay out of the water at the beach until further notice. Seattle Parks notes that county and state agencies advise avoiding contact with the water at Lincoln Park because of elevated bacteria levels. This isn’t a beach closure but rather an advisory.

Are they planning to put up signs? I am at the park and there is no indication of this. I wouldn’t have known unless i checked online.

Gatewood Elementary just had their field day at Lincoln Park today where dozens and dozens of six year olds played in the water at the beach. I presume nothing changed between this morning and this afternoon so this sort of notice would have been really helpful for us today if we had known the water was a danger.

I agree wholeheartedly!  6 Year-Olds are the dirtiest and something should be done about this immediately!

One day, those kids will grow up to regale their own children with tales of how back in the day we used to just go in the water! For fun!

Hopefully the water at Alki Beach is okay.

    Possible Sewage spill? Or?

The Dept. of Ecology website states “Decisions to post swimming advisories are based on the amount of enterococci bacteria in the water that indicates human or animal feces are present.”

Several years back I remember this happening repeatedly at Golden Gardens park. They thought it was from concentrated dog activity in the area providing runoff into the creek near the south end of the park. Not sure if that was the final verdict.

I think it’s very wise of you to consider some sort of sewage overflow/problem. Objectively I cannot imagine the scale of dog poop. It would take to contaminate that large of a body of water. Maybe the sewage overflow happened further away?  Another idea is that a ship Dumped their waste products into the water.

I never thought about it before now, but where do they get the salt water that fills Colman Pool in Lincoln Park?  Is it filtered straight out of Elliott Bay?

Any updates about whether the water is back to normal or not?

We just got a text from someone saying a variety of signs are posted so it may not be but we’ll be checking…

Sorry, comment time is over.
