I know this is off topic but Has anybody notice that along south bound 99 through the new s curve there is still a upside down orange sign that seems dangerus and it has been there for about 4 days? Is the SDOT realy to lazy to pick it up? Someone could get killed.

Are Humming birds in Western Washington year round? I thought they were here in Spring & Summer only.

Anna’s stay year-round. Rufous hummingbirds are the other common species in western WA and they are migrants (they winter south). I love bird questions :).

Amalia, heard of any Snowy Owl sightings nearby???

Mine are very demanding in the winter months when food is not so plentiful and when I’m home, I find myself making trips in and out of the house with warmed food every half hour or so when it’s really cold (snowing or below freezing). They will buzz by my head and scold me each time I take their food in to warm it up in the microwave and again as return to replace it with the warmed food. As soon as I re-hang the feeder, the senior male will take up residence on it until another one comes to challenge him and then all the females and young males fight for the vacated feeder, but they are so busy fighting they hardly get any themselves. They are amazing to watch and I was so happy that in the past I got a few shots of them feeding while the snow was coming down behind them and also one with of my favorites is one sitting on a snow covered Japanese maple branch. So many people are surprised when they see the pictures and find out I took them in my back yard as they did not realize we have resident hummingbirds all year round.

I am absolutely ashamed to admit, Melanie, that I haven’t seen a snowy during this irruption! But if you go to the Tweeters list archives (http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/TWET.html) and search on snowy owl you’lll find dozens of sightings. The most dependable ones are pretty far (but hey, at least not the tundra!).
    Good luck!

Amalia, I went to Ocean Shores today. Saw and photographed the owls. They are like little magical dolls. Everyone should go see them. I was at Damon Pt Oceans Shores.

Sorry, comment time is over.
