ADDED EARLY SATURDAY: From our partners at the Seattle Times, the WSHS scores: Boys’ varsity WSHS 63, Hale 34; girls’ varsity Hale 54, WSHS 24.

WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand reported more details from the Sealth games:

SEALTH BOYS’ VARSITY DETAILS: Chief Sealth put on a full court press Friday night that saw them trade a one-point lead through most of the back half of their game against Seattle Prep, but in the last couple of minutes the Seahawks could not close Prep’s drive and wound up losing 57-50. Sealth used the full-court press in the second to pull close to pull within three points by halftime. They went up by one in the third quarter with plays like this:

The frequently traded one-point lead in the second half was pretty much a duel between Prep’s Mitch Brewe and Sealth’s Keon Lewis. Brewe was the Panthers’ top scorer with 19 points, while Sealth’s Pepe Hernandez led his team with 19 points.

This was the first of three big games for the Sealth boys. Next, they play Bellevue on Monday as part of the MLK Holiday Hoopfest at Hec Ed. That’s followed by Tuesday’s game at home against Metro Sound division leader Rainier Beach.

The Seahawks game with Franklin that was snowed out on Tuesday has been rescheduled for January 22nd at Sealth.

SEALTH GIRLS’ VARSITY DETAILS: In the girls game earlier, Seattle Prep played an extremely physical game and cruised to a 78-32 win. The game saw Sealth’s first string so worn down that by the third quarter they were literally having trouble finding their footing. Prep’s scoring leader was Kari Luttinen, who put up 34 points before coming out of the game in the fourth quarter. Sealth’s top scorer was junior Victoria Elleby with 16.
