West Seattle High School football coach Davis Lura leaving

Thanks to Curtis for the tip from last night’s West Seattle High School 2010 football banquet: Head football coach Davis Lura announced he’s leaving after four seasons. Having listened to what he described as an emotional speech, Curtis said, “Despite what was a very difficult season, it is very clear that Coach Lura cares about the young men on his team very much.” We checked today with WSHS athletic director George Foster, who confirmed Coach Lura’s departure, saying he is pursuing coaching opportunities in Ballard, where he teaches. No replacement for the Wildcats yet – the interview process may take a while.

I’m sad to see Coach Lura go. He was a good coach who had the kids’ best interest at heart. We’ll miss you Coach Lura but thanks for helping making our kids better players and better people.

In my last four years as head coach, we have accomplished many great and wonderful achievements: Playoffs, sending kids to play at the next level, beating some remarkable talented teams and of course having the courage to play games this year with only a handful of players. West Seattle football has been such a wonderful experience and opportunity for me to grow with this community and athletes here at West Seattle. We have fought the tough battle together and it is one that when you look back on and reflect in your later years, will fill you with great pride, joy and memories! To the community, players, coaches and parents I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me in to coach and teach your young men.

However, it is with great courage and sadness that it is time that we go our separate ways. I will always be thankful of this tremendous opportunity and experience to coach here and will cherish forever the challenges that we faced together, the moments of joy and jubilation and the opportunity to be a part or your lives. I will always be close by if you ever need anything. I am and always will be Wildcat.
    Thank you!
    Davis Lura
