Update: Robbery at Viking Bank in The Junction

5:13 PM ORIGINAL REPORT: We’ve gotten two tips of a robbery at Viking Bank on the east edge of The Junction. Will be there shortly to find out in person. 5:19 PM: Adding photo in a moment. Police are definitely at Viking Bank (4022 SW Alaska) and we’re seeing would-be customers getting turned away. Working to get info of description(s). 5:31 PM UPDATE: Confirmed at scene that the bank was indeed robbed. Talked to Det. Jeff Kappel in SPD media unit – he says the robber was described as female, 55 years old, 5-1 or 5-2, sunglasses, black scarf, gray zip-up hoodie, thin build. Possible maroon SUV getaway vehicle. 5:48 PM NOTE: For those who were wondering, the last West Seattle bank robbery was the Admiral B of A on May 5th (here’s our original coverage; here’s our followup with news of arrests).

    Female suspect (but overheard on scanner it might have been another visit from that Dude Looks Like A Lady robber) Just heard they released containment, so either they caught the suspect, or the suspect got away…

    Description I just got sure sounds similar (just added to story). SPD media did not report an arrest, however, and I was just on the phone with him a few mins ago … TR

    Mookie..you have now formally named this robber. The cops and media always give cute names to the suspects, depending on their MO. Dude Looks Like A Lady robber is PERFECT! lol I’m waiting to hear the name on the 11pm news :)

    Now I know why I saw one of our esteemed editors (Patrick) across the street by BofA. I was thinking we should start a game where is our editor and when someone spots them report it.

    I realize there’s no panacea, no oasis free of crime – however, does it seem like West Seattle has more bank robberies than other ares of Seattle? I know how traumatizing this can be to the victims, I hope the perpetrator’s caught, and that the victims are able to recover emotionally.

    @Homelessinthejunction,
    Thank you for the laugh,
    And the fact that you are homeless in the junction and have access to post on the WSB made me laugh even more… God bless America!!!

    so was that the reason for cops screaming south on Delridge at 5:08 ish? when I saw them, I was hoping they were headed to pick up the 2 ‘men’ that assaulted the teenager.

    • WSB June 1, 2010 (8:09 pm)

      It’s the only major incident we have heard of in that time frame, so depending on where you were on Delridge when you saw them head south – probably so; I believe the first call was just after 5.

    whats up with all these banks getting robbed in west seattle. i guess theres no security over here, that makes it easy

    The cops screaming south on Delridge at that time were probably headed towards a big response at 9th SW just south of Holden. There were at least 4 SPD units there at 5:20, with more arriving coming up HP Way, and they had 9th blocked both directions. Didn’t see any mention of it on the 911 log, tho. Maybe WSB can find mention of that incident through other sources?

    Wow! I was watching TV when all of a sudden, I heard “put your hands out of the car” on a bullhorn in front of my house on Highland PKWY. I look up and see 3 cop cars that pulled this maroon SUV over and had the driver get out with guns drawn. One quick look of the driver and it was over. Driver let go. NOW I know why!

    Wow! They finally caught someone. I was wondering if the West Seattle banks were just giving out cash withdrawls. I can’t believe the cops actually got somebody, 6 banks later…fockin amazing.

Sorry, comment time is over.
