West Seattle Crime Watch: Hit-and-run help sought

Out of the WSB inbox, from Kevin:

Someone driving a late model white Volvo wagon just sideswiped my truck in the Alaska Junction, parked on Rutan Pl SW [map] at approximately 8:00 PM. Driver continued down Rutan (a dead end street), turned around and sped past my neighbors who were trying to get the plates on the car. Seattle Police are out looking for the vehicle as it sounds like the driver may be intoxicated. Any info would be great as I am about to move out of state and this is really bad timing for me!

I have seen far too many of these, lately. It’s disappointing that people can’t just man up, instead of speeding off to cause more damage elsewhere.

So on a closer look at the paint left by the offending car/driver it looks more like a tan or light brown color. Nothing from PD last night about finding anything, don’t really expect much as this isn’t a big deal really. Just a major inconvenience for me! thanks WS blog for posting! You guys rock and I will often check in still after the move.

Well, if you want to do the right thing, I highly recommend calling the non-emergency police number, 206-625-5011, to basically say the same thing.

There were multiple witnesses to this hit-and-run as it happened in front of our homes on a very quiet deadend street on Sunday evening. The car was an early 70’s beater Volvo on which one the of the taillight covers was broken. How that driver missed the large delivery van parked right behind Kevin’s truck is a mystery and the topic of a lot of conjecture.
    .
What makes me mad is that the driver knew he/she had sideswiped Kevin’s truck. The driver hid in the dead end for several minutes before turning around (while we talked with a police dispatcher) and speeding back out of the street and blowing past the stop sign. That idiot actually turned on his/her signal while running the stop!
    .
If any of us see that car again, 911 calls will be made in a flash.

Sorry, comment time is over.
