Today: Come help Delridge Super 24 store’s healthy evolution

The Super 24 mini-market on Delridge has gotten extra attention lately for that three-month-old mural and for a citywide media spotlight – this story by our partners at the Seattle Times; both are for the same reason: The store is a trailblazer in the push to make more healthy food available in Delridge, despite the absence of a grocery store. Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association sent word of a work party/event today and is extending the participation invitation community-wide. Here’s some of what’ll be involved, 11 am-3 pm today:

* Healthy food sampling and “voting” for healthy snack offerings in the Super 24 corner store.
* Removal of excessive tobacco and alcohol ads at front entrance of store.
* Interior store transformation
* “Limited” TEAM Delridge T-shirts to volunteers who participate more than 5 hours.

Anyone and everyone who cares about the Delridge community is invited to join us.

Super 24 is at Delridge and Findlay; here’s a map.

    Wow. What a wonderful opportunity! I wish I had known about it earlier so I could have planned to attend. Hopefully many others in our community will.

    Likewise, I wish I had known about this earlier. I live on the next block, and am going to try to squeeze in some time to go.
    When I first saw the mural, I was a bit dubious about the “healthy” part. I’ve been into that mini-mart and didn’t see much that was healthy in there. I don’t consider a few bruised and past their prime apples and bananas as “healthy”. But I’m thrilled to see some changes and actual steps towards offering better choices.

    Really, I wish them the best.

    I second Holli and D.A. Can’t make it today, although I’d have loved to help rip off those cigarette and malt liquor ads! Will stop by and thank Mr. Singh for taking a risk on changing a well-established business model. I love the mural. I do hope is a sign of what’s to come there.

    What a beautiful mural, I am on my way to check this out as I head to white center. Thanks to the store owners for being a leader in this area for healthier choices.

    We dropped by a little earlier and got some pix we will publish later – great group doing some great work – little signs in the store now labeling certain items as healthy items (but very cheery signs, not just dreary nutritional info cards) … and they’d taken a lot of those old materials off the storefront … TR
