Delridge-area problem properties: Cleanup under way on 26th

In the past week, we have brought you two updates on Delridge-area problem properties (here and here), focused in particular on one vacant house at the far north end of Delridge, but also discussing a wider problem – junk and trash piling up outside some, transient/squatter problems at others. Today, we got word (thanks, Lisa!) that a cleanup crew is at 5424 26th SW (map), which she says is a vacant house that’s had a junk problem for a long time (note the photos above and below). The city-worker crew that’s there would tell us only that it’s a court-ordered cleanup; crossreferencing the parcel number in King County’s online-records system didn’t turn up that kind of court order, nor did any recent violation notices show up on the city website (though as a commenter discovered, it looks like one of last year’s violations did just wind its way through the system), but we did find a notice that the site is to be auctioned off on April 17th (10 am, King County Administration Building downtown).

Also, FYI when I clicked on the link to the city website and then clicked on link Case # 1014874 there is a description of a judgment on Dec. 11 08 and then 3 addt’l failed inspections. Sounds like this went thru the legal process.

This is great news. I take my daily run down 26th Ave. SW quite frequently. There are a few more houses along this route with the same exact problem. How can I/we report them and get this process moving forward with other problem properties?

I’d like to thank the good folks at the North Delridge Neighborhood Council, especially Mike Dady, for their pursuance of these issues. We are so appreciative of their persistence and willingness to point fellow N. Del. residents towards the right city folks and resources to get things moving on these problem properties.

Awesome!! Send them up to my Mom’s neighbor on the 4800 block of 26th next!! She lives next door to a recently vacated “problem” house (that’s my nice way of putting it). I think it’s about ready to fall down. We will have to go next door and pick up/take out the trash left behind this week since it doesn’t look like anyone else is going to do it and it’s becoming a health issue real quick. At least the druggies are finally gone now :) I cringe when I imagine what it probably looks like inside :(

ZS, MB and anyone else in the North Delridge area who is concerned about vacant houses creating public safety problems in our neighborhood. Please attend the April 1st meeting of the North Delridge Neighborhood Council at the Delridge Library from 6:30 – 7:45pm. There will be information provided about what you can do about vacant houses and details on Council Member Sally Clark and Department of Planning and Development Director Diane Sugimara’s upcoming tour of a few vacant houses in North Delridge that have caused a lot of grief and trouble.

THANK GOD!! The giant pile of garbage in the picture above is now GONE. A vacant, boarded up home isn’t exactly a treat for the eyes, but at least it isn’t as much of a health hazard for the time being. MB–if there is any sign of rats, etc., next to your mom’s place, contact the city ASAP. Rodents, etc. get them moving a little more quickly than “just” trash.
