We’ve always had a minor ant problem in past years that usually flares up around Dec/Jan but we have never had it this bad. Is it the cold? We are getting crowded out! We have finally called a pest company (great recommendations in the forums) but just curious if others are having a worse ant year than usual? (I guess this is whining, but it’s driving us nuts!)

We used Borax on the ant trails [where we could, along walls and such] and eventually they all died off or went away. Took a while but worth it.

When we had ants some years ago (small, brown) an exterminator called them moisture ants and said that the problem wouldn’t go away unless the water source were addressed. We replaced the leaking windows and used a product called Terro, available at McClendon’s. I haven’t seen an ant since.

I think we are pretty well sealed up – windows door have all been replaced. We did try Terro last year and it seemed to work then, but they seem like they are back with a vengeance this year. We used to have big gaps between the paver in our backyard patio where all the ants used to live, but filled them in with concrete. I wonder if we’ve driven them into the house because of that? Just did not know if others were seeing more ants than usual this year compared to other years.

We have never ever had any ant problems at our house until right now :( I am sooo angry. We don’t see any outside trails. They started of slow and in the last week have been picking up more and more. I need to get rid of them asap, but we have children and dogs and I am not sure how or what to use or do that would be safe to get this problem taken care of.

As raincity said Terro seems to work. That was my experience too. I learned about it from a professional exterminator that had the contract at a restaurant where I worked. He explained that it works by the ants taking the poison back to the hive where it does its job. He also cautioned that remedies that kill ants outside of the hive may cause the hive to split. Terro comes in a box of small plastic containers of liquid that are easily hidden from pets and children. …worth a try.

Our tenants in our rental home emailed this week with the exact same comment! One or two over the last 6 months (since treatment) and now all of a sudden 10 – 20 a day!! Something must be going on!?!

Anyway, I will recommend to mypatience et all that we have had awesome results with Green Choice Pest Control – they have a $99 ant treatment that has always lasted about 6 months and they are always available to come out within 24-48 hours and on Saturdays too! It’s so interesting that we have all seen an increase!

i keep a capped applicator of Combat source kill max next to my kitchen sink..

when i see ants, i place a small blob in the path the ants are taking.. high enough to avoid worries about dogs or …

it works.. but they just pop up somewhere else later.. which is why the applicator is next to my sink ..
