remember what i said about strange bedfellows?
the careerists know how to broker the deals that will be necessary for any substantive action.
You can “throw the bums out” or you can get things done. You can’t do both.

BTW. this is a lesson learned the hard way..

and yes.. i would say being politically active for 52 of my 67 years is most of my lifetime…

JoB, I’ll have to say I’m surprised and disappointed by your last comments. I would think that after such a lifetime of political engagement you would understand that careerists do whatever they need to do in order to preserve their standing. It has been sustained mass action that forced pols to adopt key policy changes.

do you want to be right or do you want to be effective?

the ugly truth is that without the influence of those careerists .. who by the way are nearing the end of their careers.. you won’t get the legislation passed that will limit the next wave of careerists or the one after that…

You can call that selling out if you want to..
    i call it being effective.

if you want to change the system you have to have effective allies within the system

cD, It’s possible that you hit “submit” then closed your browser before the post was fully processed. That happened to me when I made an edit to a post that had cleared (after one of those slight delays) then disappeared after the editing. I think I was just too fast.

The post was in response to your question about Trump taking over the government. I thought it would be obvious I see that as a work in process, not something completed. But in any case, the recent moves to put Steven Bannon on the NSC and Principals Committee while downgrading the roll of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence is an example of what I was referring to. An unvetted, unqualified, political strategist put in a position on a committee that is expected to evaluate intelligence input from multiple agencies and recommend policies in response. One can speculate about why distancing the Joint Chiefs seems desirable.

JTB: Anything I post over a few sentences often gets filtered. I can spend a lot of time re-arranging words and eliminating names and it sometimes will post. It is not a problem of closing the browser window. Many of my posts with political content just don’t show no matter what I do.

you know TR doesn’t have time to sit here and monitor what you say or don’t say…so it’s got to be the filter mechanism.Hits us all at some point.

Captain Dave.. my last two replies to you didn’t make the cut either. I didn’t link to hate sites or knowingly use hate speech.. but who knows.. i was pretty cranky.

JoB, JanS, JTB: I can barely post anything now with political words or links. It seems to me that WSB has turned up their unacceptable speech filters to include a lot of common dictionary words and phrases related to the guy who got elected or any issues of public controversy. I enjoyed debating with you guys, but it looks like not much can be said anymore–literally. So much for intellectual diversity in Seattle. It’s really spooky that media people want to make it appear everyone thinks the same. (I have noticed that WSB deletes all my posts for the last couple weeks on the front page articles, no matter what I say.)

Dave…have you questioned the editoe in email? It’s one thing to complain here, but maybe it’s simply getting caught in a filter she has no control over. Or would you just rather assume that it’s a conspiracy directed at only you?

JanS: I don’t know what the problem is. I just can’t post much text relating directly to political content. I have even tried posting one sentence at a time and editing, but then the whole post disappears without giving a clue to which combination of words triggered it. Maybe I will try to email someone or just wait a few weeks to see if the problem clears up. I had this issue before and after a couple months, I was able to post freely again. For now, I will just keep my responses short and simple and try to avoid political trigger words that would be objectionable to l-i-b-e-r-a-l-s.

miws: You already know what my response is so I won’t have to try and find text that works.

    Captain Dave..

could it be that the text you keep trying to post originates in false news sites?
you know .. those sites that depend upon alternative truths to buttress their assumptions?

    try a little fact checking…

i have been doing a lot of that lately since even i can’t believe the veracity of some of the posts in my morning mailbox…

unfortunately.. what i thought must be satire turns out to be true.

JoB …Trumpers don’t trust the real news sites unless it says fox they rely on alternative web sites that thrive on fake news like Facebook and a few others that let it breed during the election rather then fact check before they shared it or believed it that’s ok they are getting a real education on the real trump landscape as it slowly implodes from within… in fact you can get some good odds in Vegas on reelection odds and impeachment……..

Captain dave the name calling and insults in the debates in the form didn’t help it wasn’t bad when you were addressing issues with men its was really bad while you addressed the issues with the women and I don’t blame them for being offensive towards you at times…….
on the lighter side of things…….

JoB: I have tried to post information from web sites that you post links to (like sn-opes and pol-itico). I wouldn’t even think of posting things from F-ox or Br-eit-bart because those sites are far too harsh for lib-eral minds.

waynster: Why do you believe that identity politics may only be used on one side of the debate? When a person passionately advocates for the principals and ideology of certain things, an “ist” or “ism” is appropriate terminology. This rule is frequently and loosely applied by your side of the debate as well, but without any evidence of advocation–as I have been accused numerous times of being a ra-cis-t, mi-so-gyn-ist, etc.

People here in West Seattle were very shocked and upset by the elec-tion because they are living in an information bubble. Now they are becoming angry and vindictive. My wife and I have lost numerous friendships and have endured frequent thr-eats and accusations because of our political choice. Everything that opposes your opinions is deemed to be fake news, yet your predictions for ele-ction outcome, vo-te turnover, blocking the inau-guration, rev-olution and now impe-achment are just wrong. Do you see the pattern here?

trumpers like you still can’t figure it out insert foot pullout of arss just like his white house press secretary and advisers have done like follow the leader…if you can’t say it without – in between don’t say it at all

    Captain Dave..

my liberal mind can handle both FOX and Breitbart..
i just find them exceedingly labor intensive since i have to continually fact check…
Assumptions sourced by assumptions inflated by sensationalism probably makes for a great “reality” show.. but not so much when you are looking for actual information.

waynster: Can’t argue with you. Literally. But censo-rship isn’t really a way to win a debate, is it? Good luck living in your information bubble. Just consider that there is another world outside of your patent Seattle way of thinking.

JoB: I don’t like the hyped tabloid format either, but the foundational facts are not incorrect. I miss Paul Harvey.

    Captain Dave..

i don’t know how to tell you this but the hyped tabloid format is the most accurate part of those two news sources.. it’s those foundational facts that you really should fact check.

as of yesterday FOX news was still spreading the muslim connection to the shooting in Canada..
you know.. the one actually perpetrated by a White Male Trump fan…

just saying… when the leader of a country calls out a news source for disseminating false information .. there is a problem.

And if you find yourself on the opposite side of agreement with the Pope, Michael Moore and Dick Cheney, well you’re probably an ___ole. Facebook post that cracked me up yesterday, since Dick Cheney, arch Republican came out against the immigration travel ban and things that Trump is doing as did Pope Francis. When the Darth Vader of Republicans is against the current Republican administration, you know there is definitely a problem!!
