Wow! I just wanted to say welcome to this forum! I’ve never seen so many new people join all at the same time!

I think this is great and we hope to meet all of you at the happy hour planned for June 14th!

There is a thread with specific details!

    Welcome!!!

Very cool to have new voices. Glad more people are jumping in to the conversation.

But, does anyone else think it’s a little strange that there’s so much new activity all at once? Was there something I missed? Full moon?

Also, we pitched the forum a couple times in recent days on the home page, which gets the bulk of the site traffic. You guys have great conversations going, so some of the people who hadn’t been visiting this section of the site yet obviously decided to join in :) — TR

I heard that many local realtors are putting WSB on their lists of “attractions” in West Seattle. That behavior should be encouraged :-)

Looking at the list of advertisers, I will have to be polite to our host and bite my tongue more often about the … ^h^h^h realestate gamblers

hahaha! Ken, I don’t know how many folks here “get” your ^h^h^h — but I do! So old school. :D

USEnet jokes go over so seldom anymore :)

I actually read usenet on a vt100 terminal hooked to a 1200 baud modem and had to dial using direct AT commands to the serial port.

BTW let me know if you want a blog or website hosted on the rebuilt servers.

I have been lurking for months but only got up the courage to post in the forum about a month ago. Maybe people are just finding more to talk about these days!?

Among other things, I work on TOPS20. Does that give me some geek street cred? And I got the ^h and loved it. I’ve always thought that stuff should be reprised on Mac-OS and Vista, for nostalgia and compatibility..

    Hey New Resident,

Thanks for the welcome (er…all of them). We’ll definitely try to make that happy hour (depends on child care). It’d be nice to meet you WS super peeps. :)

I can tell you that I got really inspired to post on here after deciding to finally make the move to WS. Plus, I have a Math final and this is a really good reason to not do Math.

I had only been using the site for local info and had no idea how busy the forums are. Unfortunately my first postings were in a thread where exchanges got very nasty at times. Hopefully I was able to keep my comments composed.

But my goodness, you all are difficult to keep up with on the boards here. Excuse me if I can’t keep up with all the various topics – a good number of you are prodigious with your postings. That’s a good thing of course.

DVS90, I know a good number of people have been intimidated by that, thinking we would eat you alive. Most of us eventually come to our senses, spit you back out and hopefully apologize if we get carried away. You just have to elbow your way in!

Note to newbies: Some of us have gotten to know each other outside of the forum. We take a little freer license in those relationships. We also make comments or jokes about something that happened months ago. When confused, feel free to ask. As you can tell, most of us enjoy the sound of our own voice and would be happy to explain in further detail :)

On behalf of NewRes and the Lurkers (great band name, no?) let me especially welcome Republicans to the forums — NR will welcome your support on the political forii! The rest of us bark a lot more than we bite (and we’ve all had our shots.)

Oh, the comments weren’t directed at me. I was just recalling how heated and mean spirited the exchanges became at times. The regulars were all very adept at making sure the troublemakers were kept at bay. FYI it was the Alki Cafe thread/rant. I don’t particularly want to open it back up to disussion since it was a very touchy subject.

You all seem to be a lively and fun bunch.

Well, we are certainly opinionated! And, no 2 of us have the same opinion (most of the time), so that is what makes it fun and interesting!

charla – Thank you for the shout out for Rep’s, but come on…. seriously! (I think I’m supposed to move to Spokane – they are more conservative up there, or so said a wonderful new liberal friend of mine!)

hmmm…to each his/her own, but…Spokane? Yes, conservative….but…flat, non-descript (OK, no offense meant to anyone from Spokane, just MHO)..NewRes…better you should put up with us flaming, bleeding heart libs over here :)

You don’t have to go that far from civilization, NR–just head for the unincorporated parts of King County. Everyone is rumored to be a conservative or a meth lab (or both?) It’s much closer to theater, restaurants, coffee, and us :-)

Lol, love the full moon idea! I joined because this seems like a pretty friendly place I love all the neighborhood recommendations. Though, being stuck inside with the rain might have something to do with why I’m online more.

Personal guess and perspective: perhaps, like a bright omen star, the police chopper hovering above southern west seattle neighborhoods last week and associated police activity on the ground is what brought more readership and participation. That’s why I had a browser tab open to WSB, and hit refresh for curiousity, and learned there were fora.

Seriously, thanks WSB for good local crime coverage, and for being in general… the former necessary until something more efficient like everyblock.com goes broader.

I suppose I need to officially introduce myself. I am Tonya and have posted here a few times, I’ve already accrued several colorful nicknames, tempest, pot stirrer um oh yes, someone told me about a lake I might like to visit, or was that jump into? :)

Anyway, I live in West Seattle, on Beach Drive. I have lived here for almost 2 years, prior to that Chicago and Europe.

I like posting here and reading here, I wish I could spend more time but life has a way of dictating otherwise.

Anyway hello everyone, I really enjoy my time here.
