For one thing, it’s spring and birds are finding fresher, seasonal food options, including pollen and insects. It’s also mating and nesting season for many species, so many birds are sitting on eggs. My Stellar’s Jays starting fledging about this time last year. It’s probably just as well you stop feeding seed at this time of year, as you’re more likely to be feeding rats than birds.
