From the ‘in case you wondered’ file: Cleanup at 3025 Avalon Way

Thanks to Eddie for the tip: Cleanup work is under way at the overgrown, vandalized ex-church at 3025 SW Avalon Way. The site came up for discussion in WSB comments when we reported an early-stage 60-apartment proposal nearby. Still nothing on the books for this site, and we verified with the crew on site that they’re contractors hired for cleanup, no construction involved. (The city page for the site shows a history of complaints about its conditions in recent years.)

Glad to see clean-up is being done but continually shocked this property isn’t being developed. It’s our “neighbor” and quite the eyesore.

oh please. they’re just cleaning it up so it will be easier to knock down and replace with apodments built by greedy developers. i’d rather have that eyesore than yet another crappy looking apodment/apartment/condo building.

Really helper monkey? You’d really rather have a graffiti strewn, drug squatter, crime magnet than a building where actual decent people would get to live? Wow, sometimes I actually weep for this world.

Heres hoping someone converts that space into something functional (apartment or condo preferred). I’m shocked it hasn’t been by now – it’s in a good place for it.

I walked by that building several years ago – and thought it would be horrible to have to live next to. Hard to believe it was ever a church. It looks and feels like it hasn’t seen much love in a long time.

Just be glad they are cleaning it up for whatever reason. Because once it does get bought up by the greedy developers it will no doubt sit for another year or more getting vandalized and tagged while they try to figure out how to get around design review while cramming the cheapest, maximum number of units on the property.

Gee Nick, is there anything wrong with someone having an opinion that is different than yours? Let’s have a little respect for others..

This spot would make a great temporary park-n-ride for buses headed downtown.

I think it would be a nice spot for a medical clinic or boutique hotel.

Sorry, comment time is over.
