Reader reports: Stolen car; suspicion-stirring encounters

Three reader reports:

STOLEN CAR: Tanya reports her mom’s car was stolen in the 7100 block of Fauntleroy Way SW, outside The Kenney (WSB sponsor), where her mom, who works in home care, was visiting a patient on Wednesday. It’s a 1993 green 4-door Honda Accord LS that resembles the car in this photo (except for the hubcaps). No plate number to share – her mother had changed plates recently and “did not yet memorize or save the data on the new plate.” But if you see this type of car seemingly abandoned in your neighborhood, please alert police.

SUSPICIOUS ENCOUNTERS: Two reports of incidents that weren’t crimes – so we’re not labeling them Crime Watch – but stirred concerns:

First one is from an Alki-area resident today:

This morning at 7:45 am on Lander St. by Alki a man started following me after he saw nobody was around. He had tried to see if I noticed him by whistling lightly not loudly to certainly get my attention. When I thought I had lost him at some steps by Campbell I paused only to realize he was backtracking and had seen me on the steps. Once he saw me I continued up the rest of the way quickly and hid in a friendly neighbor’s backyard. I peered through the fence slats and saw that once the man realized he had lost me again, he looked around for me before backtracking back. Luckily the neighbors were home and the husband stepped out to scare the guy away. The neighbors drove me home to Alki and for that I am thankful. The man was 5’10”, between 45 and 55 years of age. Dark hair with some gray; Caucasian. Slacks that were darker. Loafers. Blue and gray flannel shirt but sleeves were solid gray. Not a usual transient or local resident. My husband and I walk all the time, year-round on and around Alki and have never seen this guy. Nor has anything quite like this happened.

An employee of Head-to-Toe Day Spa in Admiral said this happened on Tuesday evening:

A young girl (about 14) ran in to the spa in tears, she had been out jogging and while she was walking past Admiral Pub a man in a green van asked to take her picture. She refused and ran away from him, to the spa. She was very scared and upset and ended up staying inside with me until her dad came to get her. All she could say was he looked to be in his 50s, with gray hair and was driving a green van.

We had asked a few followup questions but no replies so far and we haven’t found a related police report number, but are including the reader report in light of today’s incident.

Thank you for being such a super neighborhood business and helping that young girl, Head to Toe! So great she had a safe supportive place to go and wait for her dad.

Act like your texting and take pictures of these guys.

I’m glad that girl is okay and had the right idea to run for help at a local business. To the spa, glad you’re open to helping the community.

Sorry, comment time is over.
