West Seattle Crime Watch: Beach Drive purse-snatching arrest

Thanks to the tipsters who texted/e-mailed about police activity on Beach Drive this past hour. We checked with Seattle Police’s Det. Drew Fowler, who tells us that one “juvenile” suspect is in custody after a purse-snatching incident. Information is still preliminary, but the police log shows that a woman reported someone had stolen her purse and phone around Weather Watch Park (Beach Drive/Carroll; map), and she or someone else was in pursuit. One person was taken into custody.

Two suspects being held by police at a park bench at Me Kwa Mooks Park as I drove by 30 minutes ago. SPD was everywhere…multiple police cars/officers from there to La Rustica. Good to know if something goes sideways on Beach Drive that they’ll be here in force!

I was wondering what had happened. We passsed by the end of Mee Kwa Mooks park around 5:15 three patrol cars on the grass with a juvenile in the back seat of the car and another officer farther down Beach Drive escorting two young men back to his car. Glad they got caught!!

First a lady gets robbed of her celphone up on Jacobsen, now this! I wonder if the riff-raff who normally prowl Alki and the Junctions are starting to cast their nets a bit wider looking for ‘softer’ targets. Keep on the lookout, and don’t be shy about calling 911 to report sketchy looking characters. Bravo to the SPD for swooping in and making a quick ‘collar’. Hopefully this will send a message that the pickings here aren’t that easy!

Happened between 3-4pm today just north of Weather Park and La Rustica. The woman who’s purse was stolen yelled out for someone to call 911 (pretty sure every one of us that heard her and was home at the time did as the cops came flying by shortly after.). People in cars stopped, pulled over and everyone was helping to watch for the kid who took her bag. Did I mention how much I love living in a neighborhood where everyone stops to help out?!? So glad they caught him.

As I was saying in the previous article. We dont take any bullcrap around here. You here about it cuz we are about it.West Seattle is a all crime reported zone. But we do need to get WestWood under control. With majority of residents being senior citizens I think organised Volunteer Patrol would be effective in moving these thugs else where.

Sorry, comment time is over.
