West Seattle Crime Watch update: Dog missing after break-in, now back home

FIRST REPORT, 6:24 PM: Just got this from the victims’ neighbor:

My friend just asked me to e-mail about a possible (burglary) and stolen dog. It happened this afternoon (in the 4100 block of) 22nd Ave, a window was smashed and the dog, a 2 year old male English Setter named Holt, is missing and was likely stolen by the thieves. If you have any information or have seen this dog in the neighborhood please call, its owners are heartbroken.

206-390-5298. The friend is trying to find a photo – we’ll add if she sends one.

ADDED 7:25 PM: The story is now topped with a photo of Holt.

12:12 AM UPDATE: In the comment section, Holt’s owners say he has found his way home.

If it’s any consolation – it seems that the dogs are normally not stolen, but flee through the door that is left open by the thieves. Poor dog will probably (hopefully) return on his own soon.

Not the same dog, but just saw a pup with no collar walking north on 26th toward Westwood Village. Looked like a shepherd mix of some sort.

Aside from being insenced by being violated, there wouldn’t be enough restraint to keep me from unleashing the reckoning on those miserable a-holes. We will keep our eyes peeled and we will pray for happy a ending to this story. F-u criminals. F-u.

Was anything else missing from the house? Thunder like we had today is a very rare occurancec. Maybe the dog got freaked out from thunder and broke out?

  • IloveWestSeattle July 13, 2012 (9:05 pm)

Beyond comprehension…as the “parent” of a beloved dog, this story breaks my heart and I sincerely hope a happy reunion comes soon.
If the criminals are apprehended there should be “Special Circumstances” assessed when determining their charges.

If anyone has a sighting or finds him, please call anytime or email. 206-697-9156 or jerought@hotmail.com He is incredibly sweet, but very skittish around people he does not know. He is wearing a blue striped collar with tags and is mostly white with some orange/brown patches. We are beside ourselves as he was a member of our family. Any lead will help!

How awful. I’ll keep my eyes peeled as well and pray for a happy ending

I live on that block with my two dogs. Ill be watching for your doggie, and ready to unleash my dog on the effing burglers! I walk my dogs a lot and will be on the lookout!

Could you tell us if Holt had a collar on and/or micro chipped. Also, suggest getting posters up throughout your area with Holt’s picture & contact info. I am with Pam in that Holt may have escaped in fear. It seems when a dog is taken, the dog is released or may show up on Craig’s List. Keep an eye out for postings for “rehoming.” You may also alert vets around in West Seattle by e-mailing a picture and information. Also post and watch on various sites such as dogdetective.com, lostandfoundnow.com, petfinder.com. The site lostandpound.com alerts vets, police etc. in your direct area. Check with the Humane Society and PAWS. We found a lost dog at PAWS not long ago. There are other sites also. Posters are very important right now to get up as quickly as possible + some of the sites just in case Holt was taken and/or released in another area. Hope this helps. Never, ever give up. We will all be keeping an eye out for Holt.

So sorry to hear this. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for your dog. I would be heartbroken, too.

  • Neighbor July 13, 2012 (10:23 pm)

The family’s home was broken into and the dog is now missing. We have posted him on craigslist and facebook. All of our dog walkers and dog day cares have alerted their client lists. We have called the humane societies and animal control. We have posters up every where and a crew has walked door to door in the neighborhood with flyers. Holt is a very sweet and loving dog. He is very missed. Any leads would be appreciated. The family is devastated…they don’t care about any of this other missing items, just little Holt. Thank you.

Thank God! We only care about the dog & you were blessed with his return. Holt & his family had a very lucky Friday the 13th! (Seems odd to feel that way but it is true!!)

  • jwws July 14, 2012 (8:07 am)

    So happy to hear this!!!!!!

  • Holt's Dad July 14, 2012 (8:35 am)

Best part as usual it took spd 4 hours((Granted it was a dog not a person) to get to our house. This is the third time we’ve had a robbery at our house. I have begged the police to drive around to slow crime. But never have I seen a single car around our area. This happened in broad daylight. A chair through a window.

Can the police stop hanging out at uptown exp and actually work?

Can I actually stop paying taxes for the police? Since they do nothing other than curb speeding on Admiral?

  • WTF July 14, 2012 (9:46 am)

We are so excited for you!!! Yay!

  • The Farm July 14, 2012 (9:55 am)

@Holt’s Dad…You get your dog back, which is a true blessing and then turn around and spew recrimination at the police. Kinda ruined the story for me.

  • Joe July 14, 2012 (11:53 am)

Don’t be hard on the cops. They’re really tired from all their overtime directing mariners traffic. True policing.

  • Amanda July 14, 2012 (12:21 pm)

so glad he found his way home. this story just broke my heart.

  • FabulousEm July 14, 2012 (12:24 pm)

The most important things in life aren’t things. Thank god this had a happy ending.

  • S July 14, 2012 (6:33 pm)

Such wonderful news – hugs to Holt!
