West Seattle traffic alert: Bridge camera’s back!

(Latest image from city camera pointing east on The Bridge; refresh for updated image)
Just last week, when reporting on more new traffic cameras being installed in West Seattle (but not scheduled for activation till next year), we had asked SDOT for an update on when at least one of the cameras on the “high bridge” would be back. Hadn’t received a reply yet (two months ago, we were told “shortly”). But tonight, we notice – the one that’s pointed east is working again. We’re going to take a leap of faith and put it back in the sidebar, where it’s been gone for a few weeks once it was clear both “high bridge” cameras were out of commission. Cross your fingers.

@ Westside J: Didja read the post linked to in the first sentence of this news article?

Thanks, TW. I realize some people aren’t accustomed to inline links because news sources tend to do way too few of them – in our case, we try to do a lot just so you have the option of exploring further, so everything you see in blue is a link. There’s one camera I didn’t mention in that linked story, though, from an earlier story – one also went up on The Bridge near Walking on Logs – TR

How does it take two months to fix a traffic camera? TWO MONTHS? It’s been a total mystery to me. There are so many cameras out. They just “go down for maintenance” for weeks and months at a time. The WSBridge one is a rather important link for us West Siders. Sadly, I’m not cheering that it’s back up. I’m wondering why we can’t get any information on this sort of thing. I’m just mad that it’s been out for so long. (And thanks West Seattle Blog for keeping us updated – I’d given up on checking the camera a long time ago.)

Sorry, comment time is over.
