Prost West Seattle update: Tuesday opening set

Thanks to “Alkidude” for pointing out in a new comment on last week’s update that Prost West Seattle‘s website says it’s opening day after tomorrow (Tuesday 12/2), just in time to toast the holiday season. (This page lists all 10 beers you’ll get to choose from.) We interviewed proprietor Chris Navarra two months ago for this preview; it’s been less than seven months since our first report Prost was coming to town – a relatively short amount of development time for this type of business, in our recent coverage experience. Prost West Seattle is in the 3400 block of California (map), in the space that was previously Basic Green Box, just south of The Bohemian, two doors south of Spiro’s Pizza and Pasta.

    Now…if they only had Jägerschnitzel!

Wow, 10 beers I’ve never tried! Now if only I knew how to order in metric… whatever is close in size to a pint and is tasty should work.

    The Schwarzbier be with you!

Hey, Jan! That’s my line! ;P

I remember getting all kinds of sick passing boots of Hacker Pschorr back and forth in Madison, WI. Good times. Don’t want to take it to that level anymore, but it’s nice to see that beer is available. It was also nice to see Circa picking it up temporarily a little bit ago…

You know, I don’t drink very much, but I see they’ve got Spaten Optimator . . . mmmmmm . . . I may never leave. If they put wienerschnitzel on the menu, then I’ll *definitely* never leave!

WesCAddle…I was kucky enough to spend 6 months in Frankfurt, Germany many years ago, and had sublime Jagerschnitzel…every week – lol…mit pommes frites und weisswein ;-)

Yes, Gina…that was complements of you :)

Hacker Pschorr…what a good taste in the mouth :)

I’ve been walking by West Seattle Prost almost daily for months and look foward to a long patronage. I hope Chris has Aventinus on tap on Tuesday! See you there.

Prost = Cheers auf deutsch! Wunderbar!

  • Huindekmi December 1, 2008 (8:01 am)

    Will they have Bud Light?

An honest-to-goodness German pub within walking distance of my house? I must apologize to my dear family, in advance. This is a troubling (yet somehow wonderful) turn of events. Mmmmm.

    boo-ya!

One could not ask for a better birthday present!
Bring on the Optimator and tell my work I will not be in on Wed.

  • Joetheplumber December 1, 2008 (11:55 am)

Bring on the Lederhosen and omm-pah-pah bands!

  • villagegreen December 1, 2008 (1:33 pm)

My birthday isn’t till the 22nd, but I’m more than willing to start celebrating early. This is the best thing to happen to West Seattle in years (IMO). Once the Feedback lounge opens as well I’m almost afraid to contemplate the possibilities (and the certain consequences)!

    Wonderful news!
My husband and I love Feierabend and German food and beers in general – very happy to see another place open near to us. :)

This is great news! Love Feirabend, nice to have one in our neighbourhood. Got back from visiting friends in Munich this summer and already can’t wait to have good beer and food.

Bringing die Bierstube’s Stein Club to Prost! West Seattle?? It would be nice to have a “regular” place again.

Answers to a couple of questions: First, a half-liter is very close to an American pint, just a bit larger. Second, all of Chris Navarra’s pubs pour German-brewed beers – no American, Belgian, Dutch, English or others. So no Bud Blight. The closest equivalent at Prost! will be Bitburger Pils, which actually tastes like beer (Pilsner lager), rather than mildly beer-like soda water (American light lager, aka “canoe beer”). Others can quibble about lack of locally-brewed product, but if you’re up for the no-compromise approach, then you’ll like going beerily Teutonic at Prost!

  • Mike Flynn December 15, 2008 (10:56 pm)

Umm… don’t Mashiko, Kamei, and Azuma count?

  • WSB December 15, 2008 (10:59 pm)

Jan meant in that block (Prost, the Bohemian, Spiro’s Pizza).

Sorry, comment time is over.
