BIZNOTE: 2 Westwood Village changes – Xfinity opens, Chico’s closes
Two changes at Westwood Village:
CHICO’S CLOSES: Thanks for the tip! The Westwood Village clothing store Chico’s has closed. We reported last month that a site plan filed with the city showed America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses going into that space, though Chico’s hadn’t (at the time) announced its closure.
XFINITY OPENS: After photographing the shuttered Chico’s store, we turned around and noticed the new Xfinity store is open:
The staff told us this is opening day. We first reported almost nine months ago that this store was on the way. Hours are 10 am-8 pm daily except Sundays, when the store will be open 11 am-8 pm.

Xfinity store!! How cool is that??
Uh, not so much. Just how often does one really need to go talk about their cable service (or lack thereof). Meh.
That’s not the only reason to go to one of their stores. We’ve had cable-box/router trouble that has necessitated a drive to either North Seattle or Tukwila to swap out the device in question. Hope that won’t happen again any time soon, but if it does, Westwood is many miles closer. (For the record, we are also CemturyLink customers, have to have redundancy for the business.)
We once thought we were going to need a new remote (kid likes to hide things and/or it was glitchy even w/ new batteries- both have happened). Also found an app to use while we procrastinated driving to Xfinity store. Nice to have something closer even if I’ll only go there once every several years.
It will be convenient to have one of their stores in our area, but as far as them being an asset to the ailing Westwood Village, I don’t think they’ll have much impact, economically speaking. Still, I welcome their presence.
What is going in where Bed Bath & Beyond was?
Haven’t seen any hint yet at a potential tenant for that space, or the ex-24 Hour Fitness space for that matter.
Are they all cleared out, then?
We spoke to someone who went into BBB today and said they appeared about 60 percent cleared out, but they are still open.
Nearby we noticed Co Co & Co moving out today at 35th/Henderson with a prominent sign in their window announcing the move and quoting Michelle Obama. “when they go low, we go high”.
We mentioned the move in our year-end wrapup of the most-commented-on 2021 stories (whenever possible, we add followups, and the banner was relatively new then). Their website had the new location, off Harbor Avenue.
Very sad to see CoCo go.
Went to the new Xfinity Store and switched out our worn out remote control took us less than 10 mins!!! Kids working there were great. Good job!
Not surprised Chico’s didn’t survive. They were (at least then) specialized for a certain type of clientele. Some years ago, I went in once and a clerk immediately ran up to inform me that they only sell clothing for people who are below a certain size. I naturally never went back.
YIKES! Wow, that’s awful.
Their clothes were ugly anyway don’t worry about it. How rude.
Yeah, it was a very odd “customer service” experience.
Agreed. The one time I went in there, the clerks acted like they were from the Hamptons dahling and I was from New Joisey. Definitely snooty. Guess they didn’t care for my current clothing enough to sell me some new clothes.
I drove to Westwood for some crab legs and Sea Gallery was gone.. what happened ?
Anyone hear what’s going to happen with the old 24 hour fitness space? Hope they bring back another gym
I wish the 24 fitness would re open or another Gym would open in that spot ..
I haven’t seen a word here about Village Woodworks on California Ave.) Did I miss something? (They seem to be gone.)
We have been working on that. Talked to what we believe was the owner there yesterday but he wasn’t ready to comment. Trying to get more details beyond “the space is empty.”
Got a postcard in the mail today saying the YMCA was opening a childcare center in Westwood village. Hoping to find out more about it. Anyone?
We’ve already done an in-depth story about that:
