ELECTION 2023: Access to South Seattle College ballot dropbox restored
11:51 AM: If you need to drive or ride to a King County Elections dropbox to deliver your ballot – note that right now the driveway that leads to the South Seattle College (6000 16th SW; WSB sponsor) dropbox is blocked by a locked gate, so you can only get to it on foot (there’s a stairway up from 16th). Daniel, who emailed us about the problem (and sent the photo), has reported to KCE at 206-296-VOTE – that’s the number to call about other voting concerns and problems too (overflowing dropboxes, for example). West Seattle’s other dropboxes are in The Junction (south side of SW Alaska between California and 44th) and High Point (north side of the library at 3411 SW Raymond); putting yours in a USPS box today is also plenty of time to get it postmarked before Election Day on Tuesday (when KCE dropboxes close at 8 pm). Fewer than 15 percent of Seattle City Council District 1 voters’ ballots had been received by last night.
5:15 PM: Gate at SSC is still closed.
7 PM: KCE says it’s open now.
oh boy! First, who’s bright idea was it to consider voting in August, yes middle of summer! The vast majority of the public have other things on their minds and activities than reading up on, then filling out the ballet. I suspect that person at SSCC is one of those. This seriously needs to be changed if you really want to take votes seriously.
The primary was moved from September to August in 2008.

I suspect that once you drive into sscc, you still have to get out of your car to put it in the box. You can park on the street, go up the stairs and drop it on the box. But it sounds like you are upset at something else, not the fact that we have been voting this easy for many years now. You can go to the post office or highpoint. No for stomping needed

Thousands of people who do cast ballots vote for candidates who allow criminals to prey on victims.
You are correct & Lisa Herbold is a prime example of that. It’s the thousands of other people who are fed up with the inaction & criminal coddling yet still do nothing about it time & time again that need to get off their keyboards & couches and find their ballot if they want things to be different. Maybe if they did we won’t get stuck with another Lisa Herbold. Voting matters.
You seem nice. I’d like to see someone on the ballot who is DIFFERENT than all the other candidates. They all are varying degrees of feel-good progressives who have no backbone.

Pathetic. Non voters and those that never speak to their representatives are always the loudest to complain about something they don’t like not getting fixed.
I wonder if that seriously damaged sidewalk/driveway has anything to do with the closure? Also, in response to Wilber, what proof do you have that non-voters are “always the loudest to complain”? Is there some kind of official survey you can refer to? I, for one, never miss a vote, and yet there is seldom a result that I agree with. I’ve considered giving up voting for that very reason. I keep hearing the mantra that “every vote counts” and yet I see little evidence of that…
There is no information about accessible entry to this box. From what I have seen this isn’t the most accessible area in general, but is there another entry point that is accessible?
My take on the low voter turnout? Call me cynical, but a lot of those voters who wax indignantly about the decline of West Seattle are probably feeling pretty good right about now. Their 401K’s have roared back, and their home values haven’t collapsed as feared; that oppressive “progressive” regime has been pretty good for them, a few annoying encampments and taxes aside. Of course there is the injustice of holding elections in August while they are at Disneyland or vacationing abroad. Oh, the humanity!
