UPDATE: 3,300 customers in north/east West Seattle power outage; 55 customers out in lower Gatewood
5:41 PM: Thanks for all the tips. Just appeared on the Seattle City Light outage map – almost 3,300 customers have lost power in north West Seattle. If you’re in that area, you’re going to hear sirens as large outages tend to set off fire alarms and leave people stuck in elevators, all of which require SFD responses. Updates to come.
5:45 PM: Aaron notes that SFD is responding to a tree down in wires at Harbor Avenue/California, so it’s a safe bet that’s the problem.
5:57 PM: Power outage reminders – if a signal’s out, it’s an all-ways stop. And City Light’s restoration attempts are nothing more than guesstimates – they often change and seldom resemble the final resolution time; might be earlier, might be later.
6:17 PM: Thanks to Stewart L. for this photo from the trouble spot:
He says SCL is on site. Meantime, the response to this has blocked Harbor/California, and that’s affecting water-taxi shuttle traffic.
6:39 PM: We’re getting reports that the power’s back on, at least for some – the map now shows 1,321 still out.
8:20 PM: Down to 747. SCL spokesperson Jenn Strang tells us, “There was a landslide in the vicinity that resulted in damaged equipment” – so that’s apparently what took out the tree/wires.
8:31 PM: Meantime, as pointed out in comments, there’s also an outage in lower Gatewood – mapped at 55 customers.
10:48 PM: Per the SCL map, everyone’s back on in north West Seattle. The smaller south outage isn’t resolved yet. (The map blames that one on “bird/animal contact.”)

Someone on my block saw a Power pole explode from what I have heard
See picture.
Thanks for keeping us updated, WSB
Restoration eta is midnight. Hope that’s a generous approximation.
I’ll say it again as I say it every outage: The restoration estimates are absolutely worthless so take no stock in them. That is a City Light assessment, not mine.
The midnight estimation is for those closest to the damage. Most people will have power restored much sooner as SCL isolates the damage. Probably within a couple of hours depending on traffic
PCC had a dip or surge in power, but everything is back on and is open for business.
Power just came back on at Lander & 37th
PCC may have a backup generator?
Met market closed doors.
Flickered a couple times on 51st & Edmonds.
Lights on at Parkwest in Admiral where I’m rehabbing… —miws
Power is restored
Power is BACK!
don’t have to watch the Ms on my phone!
Power restored in North Admiral. Thanks for the coverage!
We’re on 37th just south of Lander and we seem to never lose power when everyone around us does. I’m guessing we’re on a totally different circuit.
Gatewood just lost power a few minutes ago
Power still out & my wine fridge does not have power backup!!! That leaves me only one option. 🤣🙄🍷
Howdy neighbor!
I appreciate the estimates. It is hard to determine what they will find once they dig things out. Thank you to the hard working people that keep us with power. We have our power back on by the met
Yes! Thank you to the SCL crew who after working the day jumped right in and to work the entire night to make repairs and get the power back on for everyone!
Now the power is out in the Gatewood hill area. A large boom followed by power outage about 15 minutes ago.
There’s an outage in Gatewood now too.
Well, I went south for dinner and i was told the power was back on and it’s not. Whole block at least at California and Admiral.
People driving westbound on Admiral aren’t stopping/can’t see that the light is out at California because of the sun in their eyes. Be care.
Still without power at Cal/College…..
Still out at California and admiral at 9:30. Live behind the theatre.
One side of 44th has power, the other does not. Wonder why that is
This seems accurate if you take a peek at the Seattle City Light outage map: https://www.seattle.gov/city-light/outages. Same situation happening over here on 41st where I live.
I’m curious to see a photo of the landslide. It seems like odd timing and a little late in the season when land is drier for a slide to impact power like this.
I added a somewhat closer photo above, sent by someone (thank you) earlier.
Power is still out @ California and College
Power still out on California Ave close to the Pub.Any ETA
Anyone close to California and Walker have power yet?
Normally, when we lose power like this, I’m off to the Marriott. This time, I put my “big-boy” pants on and decided to stick it out with everyone else.
That’s growth, Allen Hicks! Way to go! How’d it work out for you?
Never forget.
Power came on around 10. I can’t restore my wifi though.
