UPDATE: Eastbound West Seattle Bridge ramp to 99 blocked
4:58 PM: Thanks for the texted tip: The ramp from the eastbound West Seattle Bridge to northbound Highway 99 is blocked. Neither WSDOT nor SDOT had anything in their traffic alerts but we flagged them on Twitter/X and now the live camera has swung around to show something involving two buses:
5:14 PM: SDOT’s traffic center has spun the camera away without any explanation of this incident so far, so we won’t know when it ends, but just know if you’re heading east you MIGHT need extra time.
6:07 PM: A commenter says a friend made it through just fine, so apparently the incident is over.
Why would they purposely move their camera so as to NOT show what’s happening?
Because it’s set on the high-rise peak. They swivel cameras around to look at incidents and then (too quickly in my opinion) turn them back. Sometimes, they don’t turn for a look at all.
This is puzzling. A friend just left W Seattle, took the off-ramp to 99 and across town to Magnolia with ease.
Well, then it’s open again. As noted above, SDOT swung the camera away and did not acknowledge the incident, so we had no way of updating.
The incident involved a vehicle that refused to stop for state patrol. I was the third car behind the police officer. The vehicle stopped on the curve on the off ramp heading into 99. Officer drew his gun and apprehended the suspect in the middle of the road. We are forced to reverse on the ramp as the officer would not allow traffics to pass through. Incident happened around 4:15pm.
Thanks; I’ll follow up with WSP’s PIO on Monday.
I drove by around 4:45 and there were at least 4-5 police cars parked on the side of the ramp with officers on feet but I couldn’t tell at all what was happening and there wasn’t any commotion, maybe whatever happened was wrapped by that point?
I second Evan. Drove by and saw the officer with hun drawn behind a car. Car in front stopped and driver side door open by couldn’t see the person. People were backing off the on ramp.
