I once lost a pearl and scoured the floor and parking lot of Bartell’s to later find it in my purse. When I thought about it made sense, got dislodged while rummaging for something. Hopefully you will have the same good luck!

I’m very aware of the difference between Medicare and Medicaid. I’ve worked in long term care administration for 25 years.
People have not saved for their long term care needs which has put a burden on our state medicaid program. Daily rates for long term care residents on medicaid in facilities is so low MANY do not accept it as a form of payment. 120 nursing homes have closed since 2019 due to low daily rates.
This tax will help offset the burden on the medicaid program.

As a long term care provider I support this tax! It will be a good private pay bridge to medicaid and takes some of the financial burden off our states medicaid program.
At 36,000 that would buy 2 years of light assisted living in the facility until recently ran. 2 years was our required spend down to Medicaid. This could have helped a lot of people.
Frankly, most people do not prepare for long term care expense thinking they will never need care.
120 plus nursing homes in Washington have closed since 2019 due to low medicaid reimbursement. Our entire system needs an over haul but this will be helpful until that can be achieved.

Obviously, you are not using their services or you would know what I was referring to.
Best Med is a primary care clinic in West Seattle that does not accept insurance. Instead you pay a monthly fee for membership. They advertise that their members have uncapped access to their physicians and pay out of pocket at whole sale prices for prescriptions, labs ect.
I’m considering this for coverage as its rather late in the year to enroll in a COBRA or marketplace plan, pay out of pocket due to high deductibles on top of monthly premiums, then start that over again in 60 days when my work related insurance kicks in and then start knocking away another deductible when the new year hits.

What is it would you like to know?

I’ve worked in long term care for 22 years and lived and worked in West Seattle for 10 of those years.
There is a big difference between a Skilled Nursing Facility ( Nursing home) and Assisted Living.
Skilled nursing is a placement of last resort usually as the level of care is the highest offered outside of the hospital. It is the least home like, most restricted and most expensive. Running $350-$600 a day
Assisted Living can usually meet some ones physical needs and can cost anywhere from 3000 to 10,000 a month depending on the apt. style and care needed.

Currently there are no assisted livings in West Seattle that accept Medicaid either straight in the door or after a certain amount of years private pay.

Park West and Mt. St. Vincent have a limited ability to accept Medicaid in their skilled nursing. Not the Assisted Living Portion of The Mount.

A good resource for finding out about quality of care for a skilled nursing facility is http://www.medicare.gov where you can find the most recent state survey or health inspection and over all care rating which is based on a 5 star rating. This takes into account health surveys, falls, pressure sores, use of anti psychotics medications.

Assisted Living survey or health reports can be found at https://fortress.wa.gov/dshs/adsaapps/Lookup/BHAdvLookup.aspx

Adult Family homes which are privately owned and care for 6 residents at a time can often give a higher level of care then assisted living but not cost as much as a skilled nursing facility due to less over head.

    Ask me anything else…

Both my boys went to Madison and both had IEP’s. It was an epic failure. Both were pulled for their own safety at the end of their 8th grade year as the bully situation was completely out of control.
In the case of my eldest a student drew a flip book showing him getting shot in the head. The first 3 teachers he showed it to told him to just throw it away and move on. wtf!
He finally did throw it away which meant the VP and I got to sift through garbage until finding a few pieces of it. My son knew who drew it, as the kid had been making threats for several years but the school chose not to discipline him in any form so I pulled my son in his last couple of weeks for his own safety.
As far as the IEP and accommodations go that was a total joke. On numerous occasions I asked the school counselor to hold a meeting with all his teachers so we could discuss his academic challenges and IEP. Only one time was a meeting held and 2 teachers showed up, during the meeting several teachers passed in the hall and informed me they were never told a meeting was being held. I have in writing from a teacher that she never knew my son had an IEP until I gave her a copy of it. Another teacher told me he would not follow an IEP even if one was presented to him. My son has dysgraphia he needed accommodations.
My younger son also went to Madison and did not fair any better. Same response to him having an IEP. Some teachers on board others not so much. He was also bullied. He actually caught his bully on film chasing him with a large bat sized stick, more like a tree branch and threatening him and the school did nothing. Oh, we already had their completely useless no contact order in place. It took my son expressing suicidal thoughts for them to even give me 5 mins with the principle. I was stuck dealing with that same school counselor as my eldest up to that point. The principles answer was for me to keep my child home, pick up his school work once a week, teach him myself and return the work. We did this the last 2.5 months of 8th grade.
We did not have the means for private school and we told a transfer would be impossible given were we lived, wait lists, school policy ect.

We did not have the means for private school.

LA fitness has tiered membership dues and some have no big upfront costs.

I’m a very happy LA fitness member and enjoy the saline pool…so does my skin, hair and eyes. I could not handle the chlorine when I was a member at West Seattle.

Hi happy hour, I wish you luck in finding the person who gave you CPR and the rest of your recovery.

I’m not sure which Rehab you are in but they should have a staff social worker that can work on housing with you. Also, if you are low income and have on going care needs to consider a state Medicaid application if you have not already done so. This may help you get COPES in the home for care or placement in an assisted living if you are needing that level of on going care…

Take the elderly women to the ER at harborview explain she may have been assulted, that she needs a guardian and placement. I work in the system calling APS will do nothing if elderly women says the transients have permission to be there.

    An update:

After trying everything mentioned above, thank you for all the suggestions…. We decided to pull my son from Madison to be taught at home. The final incident sent us over the edge. While filming for a school project my son caught the bully harassing a group of students he was in and although it is clearly against the schools own bully rules and it was on film they still refused to do anything except “investigate”. They felt because my son was part of the group and the rest of the group was not upset about the incident it wasn’t a breach of the no contact order in place.

    So, we pulled him.

I have since learned this bully also targets a kid in a wheelchair.

We are considering legal action in hopes to get policy changed.

Please leave a message below if your child is also being harassed at Madison, I’d like to set up a future coffee meeting with parents to discuss our options.

I recently joined LA fitness in Burien with anticipation for the W. Seattle location opening. I’ve been impressed with the clean facility. Also, I have lost a muscle in my chest and the partial use of my left hand due to cancer…my personal trainer has been VERY creative in working around my special needs as has the group fitness instructors. I was a member of West Seattle Athletic club for 2 years and never got to know any of the staff. In just a month several staff members at LA fitness call me by name and encourage me during my work outs.

West seattle elem being a low performance school will not help you get higher on any waitlist. King 5 did a story on my son when we basically got trapped at west seattle elem even though we lived across from alki because it was the year before your neighborhood school was a guarantee. How it works now…you list your top 5 choices in order of preference. If your first choice is not your neighborhood school you will get wait listed if they are full with neighborhood students. You can only be on one waitlist at a time. Be aware that after the second week in Sept they disregard the waitlist. So, if you really want a different school make sure you call the district around mid Sept to get rewaitlisted.

I used VRBO similar to air bnb when I went to Arizona recently. Price and location was accurate to listing. Day before leaving I checked if there was a hair dryer, reply that there is not came after we already landed. House was not clean. Bathroom tub shower was gross. Second bedroom which was set up for a child had stuffed animals with dried vomit on them. I work in health care know what I saw. Tv had Netflix, hulu ect but wouldn’t let us log in due to a security setting…owner never did get back to us after multiple phone calls so tv was useless. No cable. If I use a service like this again I won’t stay somewhere without lots a positive reviews and several phone calls to owner to get a feel for them.

So sorry Jan that you got it! I hadn’t been that sick since I was pregnant and got food poisoning. I almost passed out twice two nights ago and my 17 year old literally vomited with little break for 2 hours. It’s a hell of a virus. I wore gloves, face mask and bleached down every surface today.

Had a meeting yesterday. All teachers invited according to the school councilor putting it together.

2 of the 6 teachers showed up. Then 5 minutes before we were done a 3rd teacher who happened to walk by and see us popped in…she had no clue this meeting was happening. Again communication there is horrid.

The two teachers that showed up had no idea there was a no contact order in place. Despite the VP and myself sending an email. One teacher expressed she doesn’t even know what a no contact order really means and because, when she is told of them, there are no photos of the kids attached she really doesn’t know who even has the no contact order.

The 3rd teacher who popped in is the one who is in charge of all three lunches so had she known about the no contact order maybe the last incident would have had at least ” a witness”.

I am going to contact the ombudsmen. I had no idea the school had one!

I called two lawyers they say we have no case till he is actually physically harmed or physically harms himself. Guess all this emotional turmoil is worth nothing.

I’ve met with Vice Principle, the school Administrator and the school councilor….more then once. A non contact order has been in place since Dec. and violated numerous times but each time magically there are just no witnesses and its my sons word against his bully. NO witness at lunch even. Really?

Communication has been terrible between the school administration and the teachers.

Last week I switched my sons lunch so he at least gets a break from him there.

It may just be time to look at a lawyer at this point.

Not surprised. Now evicted neighbor was elderly lady with verbally/ physically abusive daughter. Several APS reports. Called police numerous times when I could hear screaming and hitting.30 to 45 min response time. Police would pull up. Daughter would turn out lights and not answer door, police would leave.

I don’t have a Dr. rec. but just wanted to say Bravo to you for following your parenting gut.

My fellas are 13 and 16 now. They both co-slept, extended breast fed, cloth diapered and we tried homeschooling but over the years found alternative ed to be a blessing for us. This family lifestyle of bonding early set up the framework for so much open communication. Now I am a single mom to these two fabulous teens that are *SO* grounded in who they are, amaze me daily with their mutual respect for each other and myself. They both are very unique, confidant, self starters that are excelling in school and testing the norm just a smidge in their social lives.

I had so many people tell me if I let them sleep with me, self wean ect they would have a hard time finding their way, separating when appropriate from mom ect.

We’ve had the exact opposite! My boys are self assured, explore the world, blunder here and there and every day tell me honestly what their thoughts are and challenges. Our family is a team, there are not crazy teen issues, secrets for mom, sneaking around ect and I know in my heart its because we started with an ultra bonding experience and just kept going from birth to now with the message that no matter what they can always climb back in the safe place ( my bed) and tell me every little thing that’s on their mind.
