My hair stylist is located 2 blocks south and in November and December I was stuck trying to TL against the steady SB traffic on California for 3-4 light cycles. I have been seeing the same stylist at the same time for years and was amazed at the difficulty of turning left.
@ JTB I definitely agree — A fire truck would have killed the driver, and likely prevented them from making the call.
I do have friends from out of state who marvel at our Safeways, PCC, QFC,and esp. MM for the variety and choice of pretty much everything. PCC can have good deals on meat and fish despite my experience 20 years ago. Thriftway has Uli’s and what is wrong with that, and Macrina Breads. Ditto PCC whose avocados are the best (Safeway, MM a distant second).Rotisserie chicken = QFC for price; MM for fresh but it’s close. Roxbury Safeway — good deals on “ethnic foods” Latino/Asian. My two cents though I miss Larry’s and Central Market is Mecca.
Captain Dave: As far as the inept so-called Millennium Bomber: He was caught by Federal Border Agents in PA who saw how hinky he was, sweaty, lying, and evasive. He would be caught today. I was here then and remember the past.
Can we stick to facts, please? I could guess we are a sanctuary city by the vote count but what process would be used by President-Elect to force a City or state police forces to enforce federal laws? Border control and immigration is a Federal responsibility, which is why that ____ sheriff in AZ was in violation of civil rights for stop n frisk citizenship stops.November 13, 2016 at 9:10 am in reply to: the week I gave myself to mourn this election has nearly ended #864716
Voter suppression is a real thing, especially in the South and Texas. Voter fraud, however, is another figment of the Republican mainstream and He Who Shall Not Be Named. Voter fraud always has been and always will be a ghost because it serves the purpose of disenfranchising the minorities who vote Democratic. BTW, since this election was rigged according to HWSNBN, where are his complaints now? Haven’t heard boo about this lie since Tuesday for some reason.November 5, 2016 at 9:28 am in reply to: Love to cook? Give the guy a break; he is likely a consultant of some kind looking to install a monitoring well or boring on the City ROW (Your planting/parking strip). Experienced folks mark a box but newbies might make a blob where they want the well to be. By law he has to use white paint.
You might want to contact the City and see if a Street Use permit has been filed. If they are gonna drill it will be near next Wednesday or so because “One Call” needs two working days to respond, and Friday doesn’t count.
@SeaStar: How much seafood/freezer room are you looking for? Global apparently sells bulk seafood but it is only cheap if you need a lot. I have gotten some deals from Seattle Fish in the Junction if I buy a lot at once. They are also good for smaller servings but I’ll take quality over cheapness per-se. I like knowing where my fish came from and how long ago it was caught. Seattle Fish is pretty good for this in my book.
How many in Laurelhurst or Green Lake? South East Seattle, South Park and somewhere in the SODO Duwamish is my bet.
I was dog-sitting in Admiral and took my bosses somewhat skittish dog for a walk on a leash. She liked smelling dog’s marks, but real dogs would unnerve her. Near Garlough and Admiral a homeowner with a baby came out of a garage followed by an off-leash pitbull. “Don’t worry…” He said, “She’s a friendly dog…” (If I had a quarter every time I heard that excuse I’d retire now).
I replied “Yes, but my dog isn’t…” as she starting cowering, whining, and rolling her eyes…We go out of there but the bosses’ dog’s heart was going 150 beats a minute and shaking…We sat down and calmed off in Nantes Park.
I can just imagine the alternate scenarios involving a dog fight with a pitbull and a baby…
I saw a turkey at MM this PM. Hope you want a big one this looked like a 15-lb bird. While I like the Swinery I wonder what their price per pound is for a whole bird?
Bike sharing is a great idea in some cities but not here because it failed. The City of Seattle purchased the failing “Pronto” system including all the docking stations for $1.4MM. In addition, ridership (during summer no less) is down so the system will lose $400,000 more this year. Now a Quebec-based company Bewegen won a contract to run a bike share system one that uses electric-assist bikes (Who would have thought of that?) which renders all of our 500 lime green mechanical Pronto bikes obsolete, along with their docking stations. So a $2MM Nanny state feel-good loss of taxpayer money. Way to go Mayor Murray and go-along council members. At least our local council rep (Herbold) was against it.

I appreciate the discussion. I usually get hammered for not being generous enough of my money for this good cause or that one. This is the more dubious of the recent ones that reach beyond what the City’s core responsibilities are. Like the Families and Education levy followed by another one last year with essentially the same target and 2X the ask. It passed. Now if my boss would double my paycheck, I might not complain…
While I would not be surprised that raw milk goes bad quickly, you might call West Seattle Produce which used to carry raw milk at one time.
I’ve not heard them in a while and I think it is because they roam. They are only a sometime thing, and more often in the dark of fall/winter.July 21, 2016 at 6:27 pm in reply to: Howdy Doody, New Neighbors! Seeking Your Acquaintance. #851751
I moved here from an even more cursed left coast state to the south 20 years ago. I love West Seattle, and the WSB as much because it is West Seattle. I am a Badger by affiliation and have relatives from MN. Old parrothead though the recent stuff (15 y.o.) is meh.
Discover Beer Junction at the Junction. You may never play Frisbee other than sitting down after doing so. Discover the Farmer’s Market in the Street at California between Oregon and Alaska. Great vendors of all kinds.
We sometimes have meet-ups started on the Blog but it’s been awhile. – JayDee
Cyclists lose regardless of fault when hit by a car. If rolling stops are against the law, but ultimately safer, then they should run them.June 29, 2016 at 4:01 pm in reply to: NEED $210 by Monday morning for dog cremation – Donations #849224
FFF refunded me my donation saying: “Hi JayDee, Thank you for you caring, generous donation towards our client’s dog’s cremation. The bill was paid in full so the Cremation business is no longer accepting donations. Therefore, we need to refund your donation.”
So it seems like it worked out. Again, my sympathies.June 27, 2016 at 6:38 pm in reply to: NOT SO GREEN | Look Green, Green Peas, Look Green – Deny Green Peas, Deny #849076June 27, 2016 at 6:35 pm in reply to: NEED $210 by Monday morning for dog cremation – Donations #849075
