My cable TV pulled out of my roof mount some years ago and was slumping 8-10 feet above the Ave. I pulled it up but realized I needed a new cable-pull-tensioner thing. I went to True Value and despite my inarticulate description they pointed me to what I needed. My BIL drilled the new hole, sealed the old hole, and re-tensioned the thingee. I can’t imagine how many home despot trips this would have taken.

But what is her pay currently? I would not approve paying $209,231 if she/he was paid like $175,000 (Which in my mind perfectly adequate and not deserving of a rate increase.) SPU is a public service. They get more holidays, more sick/vacation days than I do, and what says that is worth >$200K/year?

Yes, I qualify for white privilege. I have been since I was born and the rest of the quiz is junk-sociological science. The majority of the questions presume and who knows what the weight is? Most people in our society are heterosexual so anyone answering differently is scored how? Most of the people in Seattle are white…Surprise! BTW I am privileged, and know it without taking a click-bait test.

If I am queued in the left lane of the WSB/Spokane viaduct, it’s because traffic to get into that lane is heavy. Note the only double-white lane you-shall-not-pass divider for folks in the RH lane from merging is unique in the state (and in my mind it should back extend to the 4th Avenue exit). The left-lane camper rule is meant for normal highway speeds. Trying to go NB on I-5 on the Spokane viaduct from the RH lane is wrong, and anyone who does it should know it is wrong. Flame out.

Todd: Thanks for serving us. You guys helped me when my car was stolen in 2000, and I appreciated the professionalism of the officer sent to take my report. You are in the front line of every issue to hit us, and I thank you and your fellow officers. And how about those Mariners? :-)

Wow. Thanks for the advice CJboffoli. I certainly didn’t intend to poison anyone. I am glad to know that about banana peels. Would the leaves be OK? Organic bananas might be a solution. The point of using banana leaves or bananas is the slight sweetness they add to the meat, which foil won’t duplicate. @ dhg my kaulua pork tasted fine to me so maybe I am idiot like Paula. @ Nitro: Please report back about how you liked your recipe. Maybe I can learn a new trick and not be an old dog.

I brought this up last year when the vans had AmazonFresh signage and no one commented. I know another local business that used to park their trucks there overnight and think they just do so without special permission. Maybe Amazon removed the signage due to delivery stalkers?

Now I hate liquid smoke, but start it in my smoker for 1/2 hour using apple. One could also used smoked salt for the seasoning (like that sold by Rockridge Orchards. I made it a week after getting back from Kauai and it was a pretty good substitute.

Even if you don’t have an imu, you can still make Hawaiian kalua pig at home from pork butt purchased at your local supermarket.
    Ingredients:
    • 4-5 pound pork butt
    • 2½ tablespoons Hawaiian salt (substitute kosher salt)
    • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
    • 1 banana leaf (substitute 4-5 whole, unpeeled bananas)
    • 4-6 ti leaves (substitute aluminum foil)
    Preparation:
Trim any excess fat from the roast. Make several shallow long cuts along the roast or pierce liberally with a fork. (This allows the salt and liquid smoke to penetrate the meat.) Rub with salt and liquid smoke. Wrap the roast with banana leaf or in the absence of same, place whole bananas on top of meat .
Cut the ribs from the ti leaves and wrap over the banana leaf. Substitute aluminum foil, if ti leaves are not available. (Ti leaves can often be obtained from a local florist). Tie securely with twine.
Roast in a 325-350 degree oven for about 45 minutes per pound. When meat is done, remove ti leaves, banana leaf (or bananas) and shred pork.

If the recipe is for kalua pork I’ve substituted an actual banana and it turned out fine.

I was just curious why you need to run wiring? I have a 2,500 square foot home and Wi-Fi seems to work fine. Alot easier than punching holes in walls. I have Apple Airports, and they play pretty well together.

Your Lenovo Model # appears similar to those they have but just off a bit. Try:

http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/ and look for your model. They should offer a users manual.

I’ve always maintained if you don’t have a womb at some point what you believe doesn’t matter when it comes to abortion or contraception. I support all women’s rights to make a decision about their bodies but that is it. I may be an aging white guy but it is not my place, and it never was, to tell a woman what to do with her body or decisions. Nor should any male.

If a majority of us voted against them, then they might take us seriously. We have literally (not me necessarily) have voted for every property tax initiative since 2000. Roads, Parks (separating them from the general fund), Families and Education and something similar(twice)…fill in the rest. Until we say NO they will keep asking. Unless we say no, then they will figure we are sheep for the shearing. When we say no they may consider better drafted initiatives.

Captain Dave: I am a not a liberal. But to use your inaccurate comparison of personal spending to governmental spending our problem is not spending more than we have it is not increasing taxes to support that spending. As a person, I cannot run a deficit. Governments can because they can print money to pay for it, and as the biggest dog, the U.S. can do so more than let’s say, Uganda. People believe the U.S. will honor its debt and buy T-Bills to support it. We should be raising taxes to meet our obligations, not increasing spending (Defense, Border Wall, Deportations, etc) without tax revenue. I am a country-club Republican: Keep your hands off my wallet, but what you do with your life is not my business (religion, abortion, bedroom). But even I recognize we need to match income with spending and given our low effective corporate and personal tax rates (Hello Carried Interest) we need more taxes.

Consider the source. Investor’s Business Daily would never support Obama and is a conservative rag suitable for bird cage lining.

And Cap’t Dave: Get your debt numbers straight–the budget deficit (and debt) has been decreasing since 2009. But wait, there’s more: Various estimates say that the Trump admin’s budget proposals will soar the national debt well past another 10 trillion. I guess the Republicans have been inoculated to debt spending post-election.

You all act like it is a zero sum game. It’s worse than that. Just like Trump Labor Secretary candidate said about robots:

“They’re always polite, they always upsell, they never take a vacation, they never show up late, there’s never a slip-and-fall, or an age, sex or race discrimination case,” said Andy Puzder, chief executive of CKE Restaurants Inc., in an interview with Business Insider earlier this year. CKE owns, operates and franchises restaurant chains including Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. end quote.

Even Amazon is trying to automate the Stop ‘n’ Shop.

The lost jobs are not like fishes swimming in the sea–they will never be caught again. Most of these jobs are gone: Travel agent, bookseller, realtor, Boeing mechanic (unless he fixes robots gone soon enough), Detroit/midwest auto mechanic. Both Demos and Republicans are facing this same structural shift. Protectionism won’t save jobs, repealing Ex-Im Bank won’t save jobs.

Someday we will need to consider paying people an income (however euphemized) just to maintain a consumer economy because the 1% can only consume so much before the peasants start revolting (meant humorously sort of).

I would love for West Seattle Produce to remain, but I am sure their good prices are due to the current property value. I love having them here, but in a new development the value of the property would rise and so would the rent. Unfortunately there are no other “vacant” lots in the ‘hood that are not slated for development are there?
