You caught the pink salmon run last year. They return to the Duwamish River to spawn only in odd numbered years. So you’ll have to wait until late summer – fall of 2013 for the next run.
I believe most of them are grain freighters waiting their turn to fill up at the grain terminal.

Tires with a reflective sidewall are awesome for being seen from the side at night.
I’ve always trusted Tom Wise of Tank Wise to keep our gas furnace in good working order. And when our 30 year old furnace gave up the ghost, Tom replaced it (in one day) at a reasonable price last fall. Our new furnace is fantastic. Tom is honest, reliable, quick and efficient. He’s a West Seattle native, too!

Two of the nicest, most honest and knowledgable mechanics who ever turned a wrench. And fellow WSHS grads to boot!

CB, I use a 3:1 mixture during cold snaps; it lowers the freezing point a bit. Plus the hummers don’t need to feed quite as often.
Another image from yesterday:
Yes, our feeder is humming these days! I’m moving my feeder in at night and back out at dawn. I’ve been buzzed several times as a warning to “Get a move on, Mister!”

They’re called Sky Lanterns. It’s a paper balloon with a fuel source that’s lighted at the bottom: think mini hot air balloon. The sky lanterns you saw were part of a ceremony for someone who had passed away.
Here’s a link to Sky Lanterns on Amazon:
On your computer, go to iTunes.
Go to Genres: Christmas and Holiday.
Select all songs in each Genre.
Right click and from the popup window go to “Uncheck selection”. Now none of these songs are checked.
When you connect your iPod to the computer, click on iTunes and then highlight your iPod.
Under the Summary tab for the iPod, check the “Sync only selected songs” box.
Click the Sync button and say goodbye to Christmas!
I’m sorry to hear of you run in with this plant butcher, LKT.
Look on the bright side, at least you still have the plant!
Years ago, I bought a kit at Home Depot and installed it myself. I’m no super handyman, but was able to tap into an existing water line and connect to the fridge. I drilled a hole in the floor for the new water line going to the fridge.

I thought I saw a Swainson’s thrush Saturday in Mee Kwa Mooks. I’ve definitely seen them in Schmitz Park.
I’d say chances are good that you did hear a Swainson’s song.
