    Got this note from the RecTech folks we have worked with before @ Delridge Comm Ctr. Maybe somebody out there can help:

    >>Hello, West Seattle!

    I, along with my peers working for the Youth Media Corps internship at Delridge Community Center RecTech technology Program, are currently working with a team of local professionals to produce multi-media projects that will raise awareness about hunger for the United Way Hunger Campaign (kicking off with Hunger Action Week March 21st – 25th). The Youth Media Corps is made up of teens between 15 and 28 who attend West Seattle and Chief Sealth High Schools. We are paid interns learning radio production, photography, Photoshop, and marketing skills on the job as part of the after-school RecTech Youth Media Corps Internship Program.

    We are currently doing audio interviews with people about hunger that will be integrated into our production of a radio program on the increasing problem of hunger in Seattle/King County. Our finished program will be broadcast on our local NPR radio station. We are also creating a photography-based poster to raise awareness about our theme, “Invisible People in Plain Sight” that will be displayed on two bus stops in the Metro area.

    At this point in our project we need to get a few more interviews with people who are struggling to feed their families. We hope to interview people who are willing to tell their story so that we can all help raise awareness about this growing problem and influence people to go to the United Way website to find out how they can help end hunger in King County. These days, hunger is hitting more and more working class people and the issue is invisible to many of us.

    We are reaching out to the community looking for anyone who has ever been unable to afford to feed themselves or their family due to losing a job or any other financial problems. Our goal is to record the stories and shared insights from everyday, working class Americans who have silently struggled with being “food insecure”. All interviews will be anonymous and no personal information is needed. Please know that your words will help to inspire and enlighten the public about a critical issue that faces a growing number of Seattlites.

    We are also looking for Seattle artists and celebrities who are willing to lend their face and name to PSA’s about ending hunger. This helps draw more attention to the issue and the hunger campaign. We are grateful to Mike Skill, lead guitar player for “The Romantics” for donating his time to create a public service announcement about hunger as part of the Artists against Hunger campaign. If you or anyone you know can give us 30 minutes of your time to record a PSA, we’d appreciate it!

    Please email us at the RecTech Technology program at Delridge Community Center in care of Leslie.Howle@Seattle.Gov

    Thank You;
