    Raves:

    1. the climbing wall and contraption in the Wells Fargo Parking lot. Daughter unit loved it.

    2. to the SPD for having a good showing to curb any trouble. It had a much less drunken teenager vibe to it this year.

    3. meeting WSB folks. thanks again for your work.

    4. to the people policing the intersection and crosswalk on the north end of the fest.

    5. to all the local artists who come out and sell.

no music raves, i didnt get to see any this year. :(

We were very happy to meet you and the family and everybody else who stopped by.

Re: SPD, we checked in daily with Lt. Ron Smith, usually a nightside boss at the precinct, but also out and about when there’s something big. He told us all three days that people were behaving themselves pretty well. This afternoon, in the final hours, the big action was lost kids – a couple scares, but reunions happened fairly quickly.

Re: the local artists – the Art Dive is one of the festival’s better-kept secrets. The fab folks at Twilight Artist Collective in The Junction put it together. The participants’ list wasn’t online so I asked them for a list a day or so before and published it – next year we will try to do that even earlier so we can more fully preview who’s going to be there. There was some way cool stuff.

Also hats off to the community-group volunteers whose booths were over by Junction Plaza Park in a less-busy part of the festival area. And the park itself is so new, I don’t think everyone realized it was a place you could go have a seat (some benches, grass, plus “seating walls”).

Next weekend in The Junction – West Seattle Outdoor Movies (Saturday nights by Hotwire) begin!

Loved the way it was laid out this year. I liked the cross formation of food going one direction and booths going the other. Loved a lot of the bands but thought Friday night was the best. Maybe scheduling Satchel and Hell’s Belles for different nights would have been better? The kids zone area was better this year in it’s new location and the community booth area was great as more of a respite area by the park. I like that there was some empty space there. I like the weirdos trying to get elected so keep them for sure. Trying to avoid them is half the fun! The food was killer. I won’t admit publicly to exactly how many Full Tilt ice-cream bars I ingested but suffice it to say that they were ALL good, lol. LOVED the Twilight art tent. Would love to see even more local art showcased. Loved that the focus was on local music. MORE please! I thought the stages were set up well with the Alaska stage being the more family friendly stage and the California stage being the more raucous stage.

    Organizers, great work!!

I enjoyed meeting new business owners and helping them spread the word and pass out coupons.

I also got to put faces to usernames from the WSB..which is way cool.

And I found out that it is possible to get a Pedicab up the Bonaire hill and all the way to the Junction with only minor problems. Sorry to the doggie we scared. I may be sore tomorrow but it was a darn good time.

Oh and thank you to the Body Bar for sharing their space with me.

Great time for all. Our 3 year old had a ball on the clown inc. stuff, food to ruin any diet (RIGHT ON!) and the weather was perfect.

Someone even got to live out their dream by smoking weed in the ‘walk all ways’ intersection during one of the daytime music acts.

Ah, youth! Wasted on the young if you ask me….

Onwards and upwards for this quality fest!

I went to the Hydro Races, nearly every year from the mid ’70’s, through the mid, or so, ’80’s.

After I turned 21 in late Sept, ’79, I would take some beer with me each time, (so essentially from 1980 on.) It used to feel soooooo cool, not only to drink it lake side, but especially to walk along Lake Washington Boulevard with a beer in hand, right past the Cops that were walking their “beat”.

I wouldn’t flaunt it, but they wouldn’t hassle anyone with a beer, or anyone under the clouds of pot smoke, so long as they weren’t casuing any trouble.

Just read some of the RANT: WestFest. And had to pipe in under the RAVE. I heard the music all the way down here by Lincoln Park. I loved it. Once a year there is a great music fest here in our beautiful Oasis. I loved most of the booths, saw great artist who have done the Fremont Fair in past years, had a great chat with one of the folks from Sustainable West Seattle, and we enjoyed chill’n in the sun drinking cold beers and lemonade for the kid. And great music!

LOVE it. Bring on the music, people, art and free thinkers…next year.

We had a great time during the cool hours Sunday morning. The kids area seemed better set up this year.

I’m particularly fond of the three teens (one in a camel-colored fuzzy cap) who stuffed condoms (new & still wrapped) in the squishy dots provided by Curious KidStuff. I had to laugh – once my kid found out it wasn’t candy, he couldn’t have cared less.
