Back in 2000 when we purchased our house I remember our agent saying WS had the highest incidences of bank robberies (interesting to mention when you are selling WS homes but no harm done since we bought anyway!). Has anybody else heard of this? Any thoughts as to why this is assuming it is true? Just interested given the recent robbery in the Admiral Junction.
I don’t know the stats, but it seemed like the Bank of America in the Alaskan Junction was getting robbed quite frequently a couple of years ago. I know they now have a security guard there at all times.
It would be interesting to do the research and find out how many banks in WS have been robbed. I think I can remember a few others. Maybe Wamu a time or two.
I found statistics for 2006 but they weren’t West Seattle specific. Of 272 bank robberies 74 were in seattle. The info also noted that BofA gets hit the most with Key Bank a close second.
All I can think of in terms of West Seattle is that we seems to have a lot of banks in a short area. When I was growing up we joked there was either a gas station or a bank on every corner.
