bsmommaParticipantComputer is MESSED UP! Won’t even start in safe mode. Where should I take it to (hopefully) get fixed?
Thanks!

Talaki34ParticipantDidn’t you rave about Ken doing your Mom’s computer. Why not give him a call?
He got mine up and running.

gmabettyParticipantI recently dealt with West Seattle Computers because I don’t drive and they offered m FREE pickup & delivery. Took my computer & checked it out as I thought I’d picked up new virus. Every tine Norton ran an update, which was every few minutes, my computer would stop. Also my free wireless was bad. Computer was fine, so came back and checked my wireless connection. Terrible! Less than 1 GB of download speed. Took Norton off & gave me a different protection. They could’ve charged me for virus removal and I wouldn’t have known different. I’d recommend them. They also helped me get set up for Century Link and got charges waived for connection and installation. They got the modem and connected me. If I need help again I’d call them.
Good luck with your problem.

bsmommaParticipantThanks Talaki34. I was in a total panic and in freak out mode!! So I was just thinking NEED COMPUTR FIXED NOW! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Our small business is on that computer. :(

Talaki34ParticipantI understand the freakout mode! LOL!
When you get everything fixed, maybe it would be a good time to look at the different options of a secure data storage system. Every business should have a disaster recover plan in place. The size of the company does not matter. If something like this happens again, you may loose a days worth of information, but nothing that would be too painful.
Hope you get up and running soon!

bsmommaParticipantI do have a back up but I was slacking and am probably a month behind. I need to set up automatic back ups. My dilemma is quarterly taxes…… Need to do them and am missing that month (or more). Does any one know a better way to get a hold of Ken? Tried e-mail but no response.

KevinParticipantGive PC Mobile Help a call. They can even remote in to your computer (with your permission, of course) and in many cases you will not even need to bring the machine to their shop.

These folks can fix just about anything! They once rescued 10 years worth of pictures from a dying hard drive, of which I had no backup.
.
As for your automatic backups, I’m sure they will probably have several solutions to offer you.
.
Also, have you tried using Carbonite? It won’t help you right now, but it will in the future. It is an online backup that runs in the background, and backs up any new data that it sees. About $60 – 70 per year.

brewParticipantUsing an online back up service will give you 2 backups! One with your provider, the other with the NSA.

MarcusMemberYou should really be using an offsite backup with someone like Carbonite or CrashPlan. CrashPlan’s pricing is better at as little as $2 a month.
As far as recovering your data as long as the hard drive posts you should be good. It’s a rather simple process of taking your hard drive and hooking it up to another pc to access the data if the OS is corrupt. If the drive won’t post it can be several thousand dollars to attempt to have the data recovered.
What to do with it after recovering the data is the main issue to decide if it is worth spending the money on rebuilding / repairing your pc or buying a new one.
Good luck

Andrea206ParticipantStaples they are great fast and affordable .

KenParticipantI hope Staples has become usable. When I first moved to WS, I put in an application for their computer repair position. Mid way through the interview I ask that they burn my resume and fled the massive ignorance/cluelessness that was the interview.
Use PCMobile if you need something and can afford to pay for speed. I have done work on a few that have been to them and everything was set up the same way I would do it.
If you are on public assistance in any way, then I can do free (if sometimes slow) labor and rob parts from the pile in my garage when possible.
Also Carbonite is a good choice for ease of use and detail control. Just decide what is important and use a local backup device as well.
