I’m a musician who just moved to the area and I’m looking for your thoughts on the Live Music scene around here. Where are your favorite places to go? Who are your favorite local artists? What type of music would you like to see more of around here?

I just started http://www.westseattlelivemusic.com to list all of the shows in the area and at some point in the future work to bring more quality live music. Let me know your thoughts and feel free to check out the site. Thanks!

There is live music at Skylark’s on Delridge and I believe there is an open mic on Wed?

Take a look at the website and the calendar:

Cool site Tarik…bout time someone did that..although WSB does..it’s nice to have a site focused on live music in West Seattle.

C&P coffee has a lot of music..didn’t see them on your site.

    Hey TarikAbouzied-

Way to get comprehensive about WS music!

I’m not a musician, but I’ve thought there is a definite niche for what you are trying to launch for WS musicians and local audiences who seek quality, affordability and choice. It seems to me that the live venues, especially the free ones, are out there, but are understandably low-key in terms of marketing.

A Local & Live site such as yours is timely and might serve everyone, West Seattle and beyond, very well.

I wish you luck! And, thank you for your efforts in turning up the volume for the arts and for WS.

Great job on the site and just a little more information, there are a few meetup.com groups for musicians, singer songwriters ect, that might work with you to either keep you updated or vice versa…

Collaboration is always a good thing if it can be done.

Skylark and C and P are the biggies, and also reliably put their information online all the time (we use that for our West Seattle Weekend Lineup of live music and many other weekend events). Redline and Bamboo often have live music, though they don’t keep their online calendars updated. Bohemian is starting up some live music. Some one-offs happen at the American Legion Hall, too, as well as Kenyon Hall – TR

p.s. I’m adding your RSS to the feed that pushes out to our Blogs page, since it looks like you’re publishing by entries.

Awesome. Thanks for the the input and I’ll be sure to add Skylark and C&P as soon as we get in the groove with covering the Junction.

One thing I’m struggling with is whether or not we should be listing DJ’s. Any thoughts?

Also, I’ll be at Ama Ama tonight to shoot some pics of The Boogilistics and put out the word about the site. If you’ve got the urge to be out tonight after 9pm, this band is definitely worth seeing if you’re into live hip-hop and soul. The musicians are all stellar and make the show worth seeing even if you usually aren’t a fan of hip hop singers and rap lyrics.

Just my 2 cents as a website operator but if you’re going to call yourself West Seattle Live Music, you’re not living up to the name if you’re leaving Skylark out, even if only for a few weeks. (And I’d say this even if they hadn’t joined us recently as a sponsor – I was including their Fri/Sat/Sun acts in the Weekend Lineup many months ago.) Meticulously booked acts six nights a week, no cover (three acts most nights), and the most comprehensive online calendar. Unlike some of the places in The Junction, it’s part of the heart and soul of their business, not just “we have a band one night a week.”

Awesome idea and awesome site. Looks great!

…and yes, DJ’s are live music!

You guys are great. I’ve got links up to Skylark and C&P and I’ll have their shows on the Calendar ASAP.

Went to Ama Ama tonight and watched The Boogilistics. Great music, but the place was kind of dead unfortunately. Although I did spot local jazz singer Greta Matassa. Next week I’ll be playing drums there with another great soul band Soul Kata. Hope some of you can make it!

Talk to either Ben or Joe at Shadowland, they are or have been doing some live music their for awhile now and is always looking for musicians.
