Since a ban on carrying guns is not possible, a movement has started to allow businesses to designate themselves “Gun-Free Zones,” get a handy decal for the front of their business, and a listing with CeaseFire. Businesses have always been able to forbid guns in their establishments. This merely takes it a step further.

    .

The no-gun ban does NOT apply to local, state, and federal law enforcement. It simply gives the business a chance to declare themselves and promote their business as a gun-free environment.

    .

So far, the only WS business signed up is Cupcake Royale (as a chain). I would love to see more WS businesses sign on! I know that I would definitely make it a point to shop/dine/drink at establishments with the decal on the door!

It sounds like a nice gesture but how on earth can that be enforced? If someone walks into a shop packing heat and doesn’t say anything nobody would know. If someone walks into a shop with a sticker and they tell them they are packing heat do you really think that the clerk will tell them to get out? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a big fan of guns, but this doesn’t seem to be much more than a gesture that will do absolutely nothing but make some people feel unjustifiably good and make other law-abiding gun toting people upset.

    .

On the other hand, Grottaglie, Italy has been declared a nuclear free zone (there is a sign on the way into town) and as far as I know there are no nuclear weapons there. Perhaps signs and stickers do work. I am declaring my house a spider free zone – I hope it works.

Businesses already have a right to post signage (if they so desired) banning firearms etc. McGinn just wants to get re-elected.

People seem to have this notion that every person concealed carrying a firearm in a lawful manner is some crazed vigilante. What about the woman who just filed for an order of protection and has reasonable fear that herself or her child could come under lethal violence from a known threat. No cupcakes for her I guess.

Okay, now I’m offended. Evening news was full of Project Ceasefire saying they want to “change the culture of gun violence” Sorry, you don’t get to accuse me and every other gun owner of being violent.

They waved the drunk-driving flag, asserting this approach was like MADD trying to get drunks off the road. Sorry, you don’t get to accuse people of being indiscriminately irresponsible.

Then there was the mayor, saying he wanted to “change the culture of gun ownership and carrying”. Mister Mayor, please recall that the law actually protects those rights. You don’t get to smear perfectly legal conduct that way.

And, Mister Mayor, you definitely ought not to spend taxpayer money *my money* on it.

Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.

Homer: Oh, how does it work?

    Lisa: It doesn’t work.

    Homer: Uh-huh.

Lisa: It’s just a stupid rock.

    Homer: Uh-huh.

Lisa: But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?

[Homer thinks of this, then pulls out some money]

Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.
