I need suggestions for a venue in West Seattle, Burien, or nearby for a 90th birthday party for my mother. This would be on a weekend in August. I’d like a place that is nice but not too expensive for a casual family gathering that we can cater easily, probably 30-40 people, no alcohol, a few kids. If we can go outside on a patio or lawn, that would be a plus. I looked on the forum, but the most recent discussion was 2 years ago. Any new places to suggest?

We had my grandma’s 80th birthday party in the lodge at Camp Long. It was a lot of fun and they have a kitchen you can use to prepare food.

I was going to suggest Camp Long but SBF41 beat me to it.

The building is rustic and has charm, not too big, inexpensive (especially without alcohol), ample parking and room for kids to run around.

We had an event for my grandfather there and it was wonderful.

I rented Kenyon Hall in the past. It’s a beautiful setting and if you can arrange for a performance on the “Mighty Wurlitzer” it’s sure to please young and old alike!

We had our son’s 5th birthday party at Camp Long and it was quite memorable. In terms of lawns, though, I keep thinking “Alki Bathhouse.” You make it to 90, you deserve that view! (Of course, Camp Long’s forested view is pretty awesome too.)

You could have a lovely catered lunch at Blue Willow on Oregon in the junction. A lot of Patty’s regulars are older people. The luncheonette isn’t open on weekends so it’s available for party rentals.

Thank you for your suggestions. I haven’t seen Camp Long yet, but I’ll be checking them out tomorrow. Just for future interest, I looked at Burien Community Center and SeaTac Community Center today, and both are very nice venues. They didn’t have my preferred date available, so I’m still shopping. I’ll check out Blue Willow as well. I don’t know anything about them.

Blue Willow is one of my 90-ish grandmother’s favorite places and the two of us can be seen there often. All the food has a homemade taste to it and I have yet to have anything that I would not order a second time.

Just make sure there isn’t anything else scheduled at Camp Long that day or you won’t be able to find a lot of parking. I rented out the lodge once for a party for my Mom and found out that day that the Arts in Nature festival was going on at the same time so extremely limited parking.

West Seattle Golf course has a nice room. Went to a wedding there years ago.

I chose Camp Long, since they were available on my preferred date and the room is the right size for us. Thank you for the tip about concurrent events – I’ll definitely check on that. And thanks everyone for your help.
