yikesMemberTwo moms on a budget and their two teenage daughters want to visit in the Spring/Summer. We want to be near Stanley Park, but would really appreciate your recommendations for lodging, fun, food.
Thanks!

addParticipant**Edited: I just went to the website, curious about rates and see that they are closed for a complete remodel to a Marriott Residence Inn! “Reopening early summer 2012″…
We stayed at the Cascadia Hotel & Suites last August. Great location and easy/pleasant walk to Stanley Park, the west end/Robson Street, Granville Island, Yaletown, etc. We had our car but never used it. It wasn’t the cheapest when we were there, but that could have been because there was a huge fireworks show that weekend. All rates include their excellent full breakfast buffet which is a savings right there! http://www.cascadiahotelvancouver.com/

JoMemberI love The Sylvia on English Bay, right next to path to Stanley Park.
Haven ‘t stayed there for a few years, but I always call there first when staying in Vancouver. Book early, it fills up fast.
Check it out.

Michael WaldoParticipantI have gone to Vancouver many times over the years. Wonderful city. I always use this site:
http://www.hellobc.com/vancouver.aspx.
If you go before May 1st, hotel rates are low season, sometimes half price.

GoGoParticipantMy husband and I stayed at the Sylvia once, it is a charming, older hotel. Keep in mind that it is older, no fancy modern stuff. Not when we stayed there, anyway.

kmweinerMemberSylvia is a delight. I’ve also stayed at Best Wester on Davies–1 block from Stanley Park and the /sandman Suites on Davies. The Sylvia and the Best are just rooms. Sandman, for the same or less, 4 blocks from Stanley has a separate bedroom, bed in the lr and a kitchen.

2 Much WhineParticipantI have travelled extensively through Europe and Asia and have never been disappointed by one of the more popular places recommended on TripAdvisor. We also use Vacation Rentals by Owner (VRBO). Both sites have never let us down for cost and quality. Sorry I don’t have a place in Vancouver – just haven’t been back since our car got broken into. Could have happened anywhere but, sadly, happened there. . . .

MercyMoiParticipantIf you want to get Mom of the Year awards from your teenagers, book yourselves into the Opus Hotel. http://www.opushotel.com/vancouver.html Swanky, fun, exciting, GREAT location. They have good deals, and you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. We always work free (valet) parking into our bookings, which is fantastic in Vancouver because WA license plates sadly are targeted for break-ins. Like 2 Much Whine, I’ve had my car broken into up there as well, and I’m now paranoid about where I park my car. Don’t let the website scare you off, by the way. Yes, this is marketed to the jet set, but this is the ONLY place my family will stay – and we have a 4 year old. He loves it there – wants to move to the Opus someday. They treat him like a king. And on that note, you won’t find better customer service anywhere. Long live the Opus!

goodgracesParticipantLoved the Opus when we stayed there last summer with our 2 kids and DOG! (Yes, they take dogs for free!) My kids thought it was super swanky and we loved the location.
