2 Much WhineParticipantWe could see two converging events coming from a long ways off. Every year on March 24th my wife celebrates her birthday. It’s really the entire month of March but we’ll narrow down the celebration to one day for discussion purposes. The other event, that, thank heavens, is not a regular occurrence is the closure of restaurants, bars, events and everyday life that we’re currently experiencing. Seeing these two events converge gave a little time to plan. As we learned of our local restaurant closures (through the West Seattle Blog) Jules made an important decision. Support local and order food to go for her special day. She thought and planned and planned and thought and decided on a combination of savory and sweet pies from A la Mode in the Alaska Junction. That’s all she wanted for birthday dinner. Period. It was settled.
Fast forward to March 23rd. A quick call to A la Mode to make sure we’d be able to place our order and there is no way to place an order through the website. Shortly, a notification was posted on their website sharing that, in the interest of the health and safety of both customers and employees, they made the difficult decision to temporarily close. NOOOOO! Luckily there was a contact e-mail address and a brief description of our dilemma was entered into the form with little hope that anything would happen. Imagine our excitement when Chris responded and indicated he might be able to help! How awesome is that? Chris (wearing gloves) met me at the curb (practicing safe social distancing) and hand delivered a bag of beautiful pies! We get to support a local business and that same business went out of their way to make this virtual and quarantined birthday very special for my incredible wife and partner. Happy double nickels Jules!
Huge rave for Chris at A la Mode for saving the day! Thank you!

redblackParticipanthey, 2MW and mike! my 50th was two days later, and we were in the same boat. we chose mioposto and bakery nouveau, and both of them were similarly awesome.
obviously not as awesome as chris, though!
i’m really missing being able to get a good hand-crafted cocktail, especially on my birthday. i’ll get over it, though.
cheers, you guys. stay safe.
