We started our flock with a few extra chickens in case the hatchery’s “hen guarantee” was wrong. It looks like we were overcautious – and now we have two extra hens! One is a Barred Rock, and the other is a Leghorn. They were both born on August 18, 2008 and have been well loved and cared for – great coop, lots of free ranging. Please email me at ibwarren (at) yahoo.com if you would like to meet these cuties or receive photos. Naturally, adoption = free (to good home). We are in the Sunrise Heights neighborhood in West Seattle.

IB – is it a matter of not having enough room for all of them or just worried about being over the city limit? If it’s the latter, I wouldn’t worry about it much. I haven’t heard of any urban chicken patrols counting birds lately. Sounds like animal control has bigger “fish” to fry.

I am interested. I have to talk to my “chicken partner” but I think she would be on board. We went the other direction – got four “hen” chicks and ended up with three roosters. We have found them good homes but now have one lonely hen! We’ve got an enclosed run for safety, a coop for four chickens and lots of room for free ranging. We also have a combined total of six children who “walk” the chickens and feed them “weeds” (usually plants pulled from my veggy garden!).

If anyone has a few spuds and a couple of carrots for adoption I’ll take the chickens for ya:)
