Is there any metro service along Alaskan Way to get from Pier 52 to Pier 66? Metro still includes the Waterfront Streetcar as an Alaskan Way route, but wasn’t that discontinued years ago? I’m getting only 1st Ave bus routes from metro trip planner.

According to this map from metro, the Route 99 (bus that replaced the streetcar) runs only southbound along Alaskan Way, otherwise it runs northbound on First. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/cftemplates/show_map.cfm?BUS_ROUTE=099&DAY_NAV=WSU

You might want to call and see if you can circle around the route though – boarding SB at pier 52 and staying on it so you’ll eventually get to where you need to be without the hill. I haven’t taken this route since it was a streetcar, so I’m not sure if the route continues in a circular fashion to do that, or if they dump you off at some point.

    Sue,

Thanks so much. That really does explain things a whole lot better. Probably easiest to walk up-hill to the north-bound stop at 1st and Marion.

the WFSC trolleys had doors on both sides, so could use the same stop for north- and southbound trips. Buses only have doors on one side and the west side of Alaskan Way is the only side with continuous sidewalks, so the bus only goes SB on Alaskan Way.

Colman Dock also has an elevator on the SE corner that will take you to the crossover to First; however, the ramps up and over the tracks are fairly steep. Unfortunately, the replacement was an early casualty of Tim I-man.

If you have trouble with hills in general, check out Metro’s elevator map; note that some bldgs may restrict entrance by non-employees.

print copies should be available at the large Metro timetable kiosks or call Customer Service at 206-553-3000.
