JeannieParticipantI avoid Charmin at all costs because of those crappy creepy bear commercials.

anonymeParticipantSo, I suppose you could keep a bucket of water in the outhouse next to your pile of corncobs. If you soaked the cob in the water for a few minutes, you’d have an efficiently shaped object – mildly abrasive, yet softened by the water. A little splash of corn water, and you’ve got yerself a hillbilly bidet.

apparently you aren’t the only one with a problem..
the new ingredient to watch for methylisothiazolinone (MI)
i wonder whether cottenelle wipes are contributing to my itchy scaly skin condition?

If you do use them, go without for 2-3 days. That’s how I finally figured it out, was visiting my mom for a long weekend and everything cleared up! I finally realized why she stopped buying them too. At some point they had changed their formula but it took me a while to finish up the Costco pack of the old formula and figure it out. They caused me itchy, raw and cracking skin. Worried I had hemroids at 27! Switched to the Charmin version, they don’t use the nasty ingredient. Most of the store brands copy the Cottonelle formula from reading the ingredients. I haven’t had any issues since. When I researched it though, I found many recipes online for DIY baby/family wipes but I’m not interested in going that far so long as a commercial product does work for me.

speaking of costco.. have you checked out the kirkland version?
what i like about cottonelle is the odor elimination..
which i have found sadly lacking in others
i haven’t tried Charmin yet. i will go buy a test package today.
i can’t tell you how much cottonelle i would have to give away :(
lets just say i make certain i am never ever out.

kayoParticipantI thought my MIL was crazy when she bought us a toilet bidet for Christmas last year, lol. However, now we love it. It is so much more hygienic and environmentally friendly than toilet paper or baby wipes. We still use a little of both, but much less than before. It sounds weird and maybe a little gross if you aren’t familiar with the concept, but it really is something worth considering. Here is some propaganda: http://products.mercola.com/toilet-bidet/
My MIL would be so proud, lol.

wakefloodParticipantAnd since I haven’t seen this mentioned yet in this rol…I mean THREAD, if you are amenable to NOT supporting the Koch Bros. empire, you might want to steer away from these paper products. Juuuust sayin. ;-)
Don’t think I’ve seen anyone’s favorite here but just in case. And I’m not seeing Fruit of the Loom or Hanes here either. You know, for those preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse…

JTBParticipantHow crude. Certainly travelers to parts of Europe are familiar with a bidet. But anyone going to E Asia and the South Pacific have encountered a wash wand as a way to avoid traipsing between devices. Happily, Toto has a fully integrated Washlet available in Japan, Asia and America. The most complete model includes a dryer, music and a pat on the head once you’ve completed your business.

seaopgalParticipantThanks for the Koch Bros. list. I knew about some, but not the Angel Soft (one of the brands I had considered trying but now will not).
If, as they say, all politics is personal, it can’t get much more personal than this …

savoirfaireParticipantNot to be a killjoy, but in the spirit of sharing information, and given the turn the conversation has taken, this seemed like the kind of thing people would want to know:

Also, Seattle Public Utilities says:

FranciParticipantTricky – Yes I too am disappointed in the change to the Costco TP. For the same reasons you are. Maybe if they get enough feedback they will bring back the wrapped TP again.

JoBParticipantsavoirfare..
yup.. it’s true. the wipes are becoming a sewer system nightmare.
and in the end that alone will probably get them banned from sale.
those of us who actually need them will not thank those who didn’t but used them because they liked the idea of cleanliness
or those who sneered at anyone who might think they needed them.
whenever possible i opt for non-flushing disposal options…
but those are pretty much limited to home :(
somewhere.. someone is inventing a disposal system that doesn’t leave the user’s bathroom smelling like a diaper pail…
at least, i hope so.
