PangolinPieParticipantYo, buddy — at the rate of speed you were driving there was no way I could see you before I started crossing. Honking at me does exactly what? You need to slow your roll and maybe try some nice calming tea or meditation or something. Sheesh.

JanSParticipantPangolin…if it had been me crossing, the guy would probably have had a stroke. I walk with a cane, have recently injured my foot/ankle/leg…and am slower than the proverbial tortoise…lolol…
July 9, 2015 at 2:11 am #825594
JanSParticipantand I slow down just a tad more if someone honks at me while crossing….to add to their pleasure ;-)
July 9, 2015 at 2:39 am #825595
datamuseParticipantOh, you know, he was just confused. Lots of people mistake Highland Park Way for a speedway, you know…
July 9, 2015 at 3:49 am #825596
PangolinPieParticipantI slow down too, and give a little salute, if you get my drift. This guy was going too fast to see it though, so instead I vented here. :) Appreciate everyone’s patience with my rant.

pelicansParticipantPangolin,
Had same thing happen yesterday.
Guy in a silver Prius appeared out of nowhere, honked and nearly hit me after I had stopped and proceeded through a 4-way stop. He must have been going so fast, I never saw him. WTH?!! IMHO, one aspect of the agressive driving issue is the fact that we now have much more effective braking systems than ever before, and almost everyone feels they will be able to stop at any speed they choose, in any situation, in any condition of inattention or impairment they may be in at the time. As far as my driving, it seems like no matter what, I must consider my vehicle (bright yellow) invisible. I never assumed more visibility after I bought it, but saw that the color actually made a difference and have even seen some people about to enter Admiral from a side street, stop, when they see the color coming up, much different from the dark grey of my old vehicle. Lesson: Defensive Driving 101: Never, ever “ASSume” any driver sees you. New Addendum: If you don’t see anyone before you decide to head through an intersection, wait a second or two more. Tough lesson learned.

JanSParticipantand will be even more important now that there’s a light at 47th and Admiral. It was activated today…and one commenter on the main page said that he went through that intersection at 10pm this evening nad didn’t notice a light…so beware, and always be wary :)

waynsterParticipantThose who honk are usually are not paying attention so the old one finger salute as they go by and as they look back works…….

mpentoParticipantI delivered a good honk yesterday. People who intentionally leave it until the last second to try and cut in for the west Seattle bridge going south on i5 are rotten @(*&#%*&@##&(*%&(*&(@*#$(*@#&%$(*&)(&)!#%!
July 9, 2015 at 5:08 pm #825601
clulessinwsParticipantmpento, I hate those people too. :)
July 9, 2015 at 5:17 pm #825602
FranciParticipantmpento – It does seem to happen everywhere – in the left lane to merge onto I-5 – people wait till just before the double lines start – heck even in NO traffic I see drivers go beyond the double lines and cut in. Same with merging on 99S to get to WS Bridge… the list is endless. This morning there was even a driver who decided to continue well into the bus lane on 99N before merging into the left lane, and traffic was moving much better than normal for that time of morning. Oh and there is the winner last night who in the middle of the intersection at Alaska/Fauntleroy decided he really wanted to be in the lane to Fauntleroy despite the fact he was in the lane that went to Alaska. Just cut into the Fauntleroy lane in the middle of the intersection. Oh yes it was during the height of rush hour too.

LackingStyleParticipantWhat I learned – people that drive cars are rotten and we should specifically incite them when their behavior is at its worst, because that makes us feel better.
For your own safety, please don’t stoop to the level, you won’t win, and will just create animosity between drivers and pedestrians.
Please instead reach out to your local reps and point out areas where it is dangerous for peds and request additional safety or additional patrol to the area.
Also, if the offenders read this type of response, rather than saying “oops” they are going to say “get em”
I tend to believe that most of the time its and oops, and if we don’t “feed the trolls” (Common Blog Parlance) then they might actually see they are at fault and be more conscious next time.
Worst case scenario of the inciteful behavior is a front page blog post about someone getting hit.
July 9, 2015 at 5:30 pm #825604
PangolinPieParticipantHmmm…speaking only for myself, I don’t think that the guy honking at me for crossing the road was having a little “oops” moment. I think he was an aggressive driver in a big hurry. And please note that I drive too, when I’m not taking the bus, so I’m not saying that “people that drive cars are rotten” (if that phrase was aimed at me).
I retain the right to give assholes the finger as I feel the need, though. I’ll take full responsibility for the results, thanks very much. If that makes them say “get ’em” then, well, we’ve confirmed their asshole status.
July 9, 2015 at 5:43 pm #825605
LackingStyleParticipantThen we are all assholes

StumbledoreMemberAsshole party!
July 9, 2015 at 5:52 pm #825607
LackingStyleParticipantPangolin – I don’t think there was anything wrong with posting to say “this happened” awareness is important, the rotten comment was aimed generally based on responses. I would just hope that we can collectively take the higher road.

PangolinPieParticipantJuly 9, 2015 at 6:09 pm #825609
clulessinwsParticipantAgree Franci, the list is endless. It’s like it’s not a bus lane unless police are there enforcing it. A lot of people using the bus lane today and yesterday morning around 8:00. Same with the double white line. Yesterday, I had a motorcycle take the northbound I 5 on ramp and the very last second possible, across the double white line and then into the shoulder right next to me.
July 9, 2015 at 9:19 pm #825610
scottParticipantI actually see relatively frequent enforcement of the double white between 9-11am. At least once a week I see a cop standing on the gore point between the I-5 and Columbia Way forks, and he’s almost always got someone pulled over.
July 9, 2015 at 9:39 pm #825611
clulessinwsParticipantGreat news scott. Thanks, I am through this area before 9 am so I hadn’t noticed but it’s nice to know. Looks like they could start earlier in the day with enforcement :)

gregsalmonParticipantGiving anybody “the finger” in traffic is never wise.
