Here I am in the Situation Room at 20th and Thistle. (Also known as “The Basement.”) Just letting you know that the Delridge Street Repair situation is pretty much under control, thanks to the Interblogz. See, this time I read up, so I was prepared. But it wasn’t always like that.
In the Dark Days before the Interblogz, I’d be peering out through the curtains, and I’d see these ominous posters that had been put up by some shadowy group calling itself “SDOT.” There’d be some cryptic message about how they were going to be “tearing up the streets” and that we’d better just be on the lookout for the next two weeks or something.
I’d be studying those signs through my binoculars and thinking: I don’t get it! What the fook are these people trying to tell us? And then all of a sudden these huge machines would thunder in and start terrorizing the neighborhood: ripping up concrete, uprooting trees and forcing cars to go blocks out of their way.
Oh god. It was awful.
But then came the Interblogz, and all that changed. Now, whenever I see one of these cryptic signs appear in my neighborhood, I just get on the Interblogz, go right to the front page, and find out what’s happening.
Like with this Delridge Street Repair deal, for example. Before the Interblogz, this thing would’ve terrified the crap out of me. But now that I’m an informed citizen, I feel more empowered than ever before.
You know, I just read on the Interblogz that the sun is shining outside. I think I might even leave the house today.

dobro, I haven’t been reading your posts lately. Sorry. For all I know, you’ve been saying flattering things about me, but I’m a realist, so I know that the odds are against it.
But now I wanna give you credit where it’s due. You’ve consistently brought out the worst in me, and I’ve come to realize that no matter how roundly I thump you, I’m still losing the war. As Lao Tzu or somebody like that said: What does a man gain by mastering others when he cannot master himself? Jesus said the same thing, only in a different way.
In spite of appearances, I’m trying to be a better man. I’m trying to think up a way out of this. So here’s what I propose: Let’s meet up for coffee.
Why? Because then perhaps I’ll might just be able to understand your worldview a little better, and you might just be better able to understand mine. Beyond that, I feel that once two people have met face to face, they are less likely to insult each other gratuitously. And when they do insult each other, they tend to be quicker to kiss and make up.
In any case, that has been my experience with Jo and Jan and a number of other WSB’ers I know on the outside. And you might be surprised to know just how many there are.
If you decline my offer, that’s your prerogative. But in that case, I will not respond to any of your posts until we DO meet. (If you are out of state, we can work around that.) And thenceforth, whenever I see a post from you on one of my threads, I will converge with my “spirit animal” and the spirit animal will respond instead.
