bsunMemberEverytime I go past the Bohemian it seems empty. I wonder if that will be the next restaurant to go under on Cali? Their menu is very limited.

angelescrestParticipantWe went Thursday. By six, it was full. Service was a bit slow–not that we cared–and the food was great: salads, garnet fries, scallops and shrimp, meatballs. The fuller that place is, the heartier/happier. We really love it.

IrukandjiParticipantThe food is very good, and they are kind about shared plates. WE had a great dinner there, though conversation was challenging because the Jazz Piano was played really loud for the small space, and a creepy foursome decided to make it Krappy Kareoke Night singing showtunes from lyrics on an iPod. I don’t think anyone got laid (can I say that?) after that fiasco.

angelescrestParticipantOh, yuck. Karaoke in the Bohemian? Wrong vibe totally. Did you give them the look?
When I’m there, I get some weird deja vu of being in an apres-ski pub in Zermatt. Don’t ask. But I like the feel and food. Price is nice.

chefJTRMemberGreetings from The Bohemian!
Thank you for your POSITIVE comments!
I’d like to address two points here, if I may.
First off, we are doing just fine and because we own the building and business, we aren’t going anywhere…but thanks for your concern…we’re even considering expanding hours and offerings for the New Year.
Second…there will NEVER be Karaoke at The Bohemian!! No offense to those that have it and enjoy it, but I whole-heartedly agree with “angelescrest” that it is totally the wrong vibe for our lil’ joint!
We have different music & musicians every Thurs,Fri, & Sat nights and we do appreciate feed-back, in the moment, if you’re not enjoying ANY aspect of your experience here…those people were NOT hired by us…they were friends of the pianist…we encourage you to come talk to Eirik or myself, Jason, at any time! We would happily take care of that kind of situation.
Thanks again for your kind words and support!
Come see us soon and introduce yourselves…
Cheers,
Chef Jason Todd Rice

BonnieParticipantGlad to hear you’re not going anywhere! I’ve only been there once but look forward to going again.

shihtzuParticipantVery good to hear! It’s been busy every time we’ve been in. We got a gift certificate to The Bohemian for Christmas so will be in again soon!

SarahScootParticipantI’ll have to give The Bohemian another try. I tried to go once with my husband and another couple – no luck. The four of us got there around 6:00 on a weekend evening, and there were plenty of tables for two open. The hostess seemed annoyed that we wanted to be seated together, but said she’d see what she could do. She went back to the bar area to discuss the situation with another employee, and we watched them gesture and seemingly argue for at least five minutes about whether they could push two tables together. We left, as it seemed like we were too high-maintenance for them. Very disappointing, especially since all four of us had worked food service jobs in the past and are *very* lenient in our service standards – this behavior was just rude.
Have heard the food’s good, though.
Edit: our attempt was about a year ago, so maybe the “bad seeds” on staff have been weeded out.

IrukandjiParticipantchefJTR, you just won my heart.
Though I’d probably skip Jazz Piano night if we are shooting for an intimate evening for conversation, I’m glad to know that the foursome wasn’t encouraged by your team, just a bad coincidence that they felt so at home with the pianist to make a wreck of a performance for the rest of us.
Looking forward to another evening of great food!

dhgParticipantI do love the owners’ passion for the place. They take food seriously. Now if they can just overcome the seating issues that have remained since they opened. We, too, have been put off by a stern maitre’d that consults in the back for too long. Perhaps you could have long tables and encourage people to get to know their neighbors? It works well at Feierabend….

dawsonctParticipantHere’s another vote for communal tables in pubs! It is, after all, the norm in Europe, especially in Bavaria and BOHEMIA.
December 28, 2009 at 5:46 pm #684214
SueParticipantBig thumbs down on the idea of communal tables in general. It’s one of the reasons I don’t go to Prost more often – I don’t like sitting at a bar, and I don’t like communal tables. Glad it’s working for others, but any place without regular tables would not see me very much.

lazybeardParticipantTwo friends and I visited Prost last night. One of us wanted some brawts but with the holiday and weekend, they were out of food altogether (this was Sunday evening). We finished our pints and walked next door to Bohemian.
My wife went a few months ago to Bohemian and was turned off by it, mainly by the prices but raved about the sweet potato fries.
When my friends and I went last night, we got to meet the two owners (brothers) and had the crab cake w/salad. While a little spendy (~$14), it was incredible! The crab cake was delicious, 100% crab they stated, but I didn’t catch what kind of crab to be honest (I rarely eat crab). The salad had a lite dousing of vinaigrette I believe with some pine nuts and those ity bity red and yellow tomatoes.
Next time you are there, go to the rear of the menu, it’ll give you an idea of what kind of humor the owners have.

odrokuParticipantWe live very close and wanted to go over there for brunch one weekend morning, but in looking at their menu I was really put off by some verbiage that said something to the effect of no or limited refills on drip coffee. “Don’t be coming in here thinking you can just mooch a whole bunch of coffee off us, because you can’t!” Found it offensive. I’m certain it’s not intended to offend, but…it’s coffee!!!! Keep my mug filled if I come to your place for breakfast/brunch. Maybe it’s a Seattle thing; I don’t know. What I do know is that there are other places around the peninsula who serve breakfast just as pricey who don’t begrudge a brother who simply likes his hot and black morning mug of love. God! Now you got me all worked up again over it! Thanks a lot!
January 22, 2010 at 5:18 am #684217
christopherboffoliParticipantCommunal tables? In Seattle?! Oh, no, no,no.
January 22, 2010 at 4:25 pm #684218
sacatoshParticipantTried the brunch with the spouse. The majority of the food we tried was not _bad_, but not so great that we’d go out of our way to go back again.
The potatoes were the one truly outstanding dish. The spice coating contrasted with the sweet potato so nicely!
My crab benedict really didn’t have a lot of flavor, which was super disappointing. It needed something, and the cheesey sauce on the side wasn’t the right accompaniment for my taste. Perhaps having a choice of that or traditional hollandaise would make it better?
Coffee is so key in this city. I agree with the person above regarding the verbiage on the menu about refills. When you’re charging $2 for a cup of _drip_ coffee, don’t limit people to one refill. It’s a psychological thing. Most people only have one refill anyway, but to state a limit just annoys people. It’d be different if you were serving Americanos.

JoBParticipantLast sunday the Bohemian accommodated a group that grew from 10 people to nearly 20 for brunch…
who changed seats as the table grew and needs changed… and ordered drinks sporadically.
We got great food and great service… including several copies of the bill to make it easier for individuals to calculate their tabs.. and provisions for individual credit cards.
All that and they gifted the birthday girl with an apres-brunch cocktail. She looked like she needed it.
I admit it was a little noisy.. there were several enthusiastic conversations at that table..
but i am sure it was much quieter after we left ;->
you don’t need to park your sense of humor when enter the Bohemian.
I like that in a place.
January 22, 2010 at 8:25 pm #684220
charlabobParticipantAnd the birthday girl and people around her all raved about the food as well. Including the crab benedicts. Taste is so individual.
Don’t miss the pink grapefruit mimosa — the “gift” was my third — since the server hadn’t comped it, the bartender brought me another. What could I say? I never look gift booze in the mouth.
Hey, JoB — I didn’t look *that* bad — it’s just how you look when you get very very very old and booze definitely helps :-)
