PangolinPieParticipantDoes anyone in W. Seattle deliver pizza (or anything!) on Turkey Day? I feel bad for people who have to work that day, but I’m also not really interested in cooking a big meal for myself, so I thought it would be fun to have an easy dinner that night.

jissyParticipantI just saw that Salvadorean Bakery will be open 7-5:00 that day. And they don’t just do bakery goods but some amazing good, too.

trickycooljParticipantTJs had a bunch of small sized thanksgiving side dishes for around $4 each yesterday when I was there. Just add a deli roasted chicken (from another store) and you’ve got a pretty darn easy thanksgiving, provided you’re interested in the traditional fare. If you’re totally set on pizza they have all the fixings to DIY with fresh dough in the refrigerator section!

SueParticipantPangolinPie, I like your style. One year I blew off Thanksgiving with my family to go to the movies and spend the day by myself. Everyone at the theatre looked at me like they pitied me, all alone on Thanksgiving, but I had one of the best holidays ever. :) Everyone should do what makes them happy, not what they “have” to do. Enjoy your pizza. I may do the same. :)

PangolinPieParticipantYou should, Sue! I don’t have family in the area so it’s going to be me and the cat this year. But I’m looking forward to the long weekend and a glass of wine by the fire and some good books; to me, it IS the perfect holiday. :)

Ms. SparklesParticipantWhen I was a teen I rebelled against the several hour drive on TG to spend time with relatives I didn’t really care for or about (and in total honesty, still don’t) – so I started staying home by myself.
Me, a package of chocolate chip cookie dough, and the Twilight Zone marathon.
It was my own tradition that I LOVED and kept for years until I got married.

anonymeParticipantPP, I don’t know if you’re into venturing off the peninsula that day, but Bamboo Garden (Chinese vegetarian) on lower Queen Anne does a booming business on holidays. You can either order from the full menu, or get their take on a somewhat traditional meatless Thanksgiving (or Christmas). You don’t have to be Veg to enjoy the food. Actually, quite a few Asian restaurants are open on holidays; you might check and see if Chopstix will be open/delivering. Unless, of course, you have your heart set on pizza.
I think PCC has some of the best pizza around, and you can buy them pre-made and ready-to-bake for around 10 bucks.
Sometimes the best traditions are the ones we design for ourselves. Enjoy your day!

Nobody in this house will eat turkey any more. Too much of a good thing.
One year I made blackened salmon. It was fab, they’ve been begging for it ever since.

PangolinPieParticipantHappy Thanksgiving all! I hope you all enjoyed your meals, fancy or simple. I had a kind of unexpected, but happy turn of events…(warning; long story ahead).
My dad lives about 3 hours away; not SO far, but I rarely make the drive to see him and his wife. We hadn’t actually been that close, he and I, for most of my life. But in the last year or so, I’ve been making an effort to call and write my dad more often, and even visit once in a while. Used to be I’d see him at most once a year, but this year I’d already visited twice during the summer.
Anyway, a couple of days ago my dad called to ask if I would come over for Thanksgiving dinner. I was shocked…it would be the first holiday with my dad since I was a kid. I actually broke down in tears after happily accepting the invitation. I guess it sounds silly telling it, without the history, but a holiday with family was like the impossible dream after many years of disappointing dinners with crazy in-laws, or, later, alone.
So here I sit, stuffed with…yes, TURKEY! And feeling like for the first time in a long, long time I had a family holiday. I appreciate all the thoughtful suggestions from everyone, though! I hope everyone’s day was happy, with friends, family, pets, or on your own. And thank you for thinking of me, Jissy. :)
