kgdlgParticipantThere are many days when I am thankful for the community that the WSB has created online – through news, comments, the forums – for all of us in West Seattle.
So please name one thing about the WSB that you are thankful for…I will start:
That the Blog (TR) so diligently (does she ever sleep?) monitors and enforces rules for civil dialogue in comments and forums so that we can feel safe coming here to express ourselves and occasionally, ask for help. It restores my faith in humanity to have a space like this where people routinely help each other, even after passionate political debate/disagreement!

carterParticipantThe WSB list of things they do that I am thankful for is, thankfully, much too long. Randomly choosing one item from the list.
Anyone of my West Seattle Community neighbors have a democratic (small “D”) voice here, whether it be their own opinion, cause, organization, newsworthiness, retail preferences, celebration, or misfortune.
WSB is a class act!

karenParticipantIf something is happening in the ‘hood, I know I can come here and find out what is going on.

miwsParticipantSo please name one thing about the WSB that you are thankful for….
One thing?
Ha! I can sum it up in one word! (Unlike my normally, overly wordy posts, where I go off on tangents, like the time I…..)
Everything. :-)

tom kelleyParticipantBeing in the know and having the ability to occasionally comment makes me feel like I belong.

RGParticipantThey are ethical, their coverage isn’t opinion-news, their accuracy is amazing, they have great community spirit, they are fair-minded (bikes vs cars, wow), they model excellent journalistic behavior for other news orgs, and for the volume of news they put out you’d think they have an office staff of fifty (seriously, where are all the typos like you see on other local news sites?). But mostly, even though I’ve not met them in person, they feel like my friendly neighbors.
.
(Sorry, I couldn’t name just one thing.)

NFiorentiniMemberIt’s a trick question! No one can name just one thing! I’m just grateful we have this in Best Seattle. :)

birdrescuerParticipantIf I can only pick one it would be the PET section that helps people find lost pets.

JayDeeParticipantWhat I like is that WSB ties me into the community — I have no kids, was not lucky enough to go to West Seattle High, but through WSB I can both know and help the larger community. My car has been washed multiple times by West Seattle High kids, recyclables recycled, and other things like donations to Food Banks because WSB made me aware of them. We are fortunate to have WSB here to facilitate it all.

JoBParticipantthat they haven’t chosen to sell out to someone who doesn’t care as much about us
October 3, 2012 at 3:41 am #772904
charlabobParticipantHard to come up with one…so a collective thank you for the close friendships I have made with folks I wouldn’t have met without WSB.

EtronMemberThe community and accessibility they create for the neighborhood is heartwarming.

sbreParticipantI like that the WSB allows me to see some cool avatars, and the really scary one that seems to dance and reminds me of my elementary school principle!

2 Much WhineParticipantI like knowing about new and departing restaurants. We likely wouldn’t know about comings and goings without the WSB.

JulieMemberI like not cringing in embarrassment for the writing and proofreading. (It’s a small thing, but the big ones have been mentioned. It matters to me!)
October 3, 2012 at 2:05 pm #772909
Myr-myrParticipantA BIG thumbs-up for all you do. I am always meeting total strangers at the great venues and restaurants you cover and discovering that we all got our best info from the WSB! Re: commuting? You are a godsend!
Special coupons at PCC? Thank you!Jobs? Forums? Events? Yes! Yes! Yes!
October 3, 2012 at 2:18 pm #772910
2 Much WhineParticipantJulie, I am assuming you mean you’re not cringing in embarrassment because it is so rare to find errors in the articles (it comes with the territory in comments and forums). Am I right? I agree 100%, a typo is a rare thing and the writing is excellent. While I’m at it, I also appreciate the ethical standards that are upheld.

EmmyJaneParticipantRG @ #6 summed it up for me. Also, it’s allowed me to feel so connected to my community and make friends I wouldn’t meet otherwise!
October 3, 2012 at 11:21 pm #772912
GoGoParticipantI feel that the WSB is like West Seattle’s own Gladys Kravitz, always lookin’ out the window to see what’s going on in the ‘hood! :)
(Only older people will get this)

westcoastdebParticipantFeeling like I know a superstar (TR) but she doesn’t act like one.
The connection this place provides.
