Del GriffithParticipantDid anyone else see this suspicious activity? They appeared to be doing the thai chi while staring, often at people walking by. This is how people get mugged and harassed. When I approached and questioned them I was asked not to interrupt their routine. SO, you call assessing and selecting who you’re going to assault a routine?
We need to be aware of this activity and our surroundings at all times.

schwaggyParticipantUm… what? How do you know exactly what they were up to?
August 14, 2014 at 6:47 pm #812134
dobroParticipantThis is a joke, right? Sometimes, on the internet, you need to label it as such or people will think you’re serious about something as seemingly ignorant as “suspicious yoga”.
August 14, 2014 at 6:56 pm #812135
Del GriffithParticipantSchwaggy – It’s well known the thai chi and other practices are a cover for public muggings and even kidnappings. This has been documented on 60 Minutes and KOMO 7 with the helicopter. We need to be aware of this, so when I see people performing the yoga in public spaces and staring, yes, I do think it’s suspicious. I let them know they, too, are being watched. I encourage you to do the same.

PLSParticipantI happened to catch one of the devious characters on my cell phone. Very disturbing.
August 14, 2014 at 7:31 pm #812137
auParticipantThat IS a disturbing video. Recruiting small children as Tai Chi criminals,HA!
Del Griffith – this is a very odd joke, I am uncertain I get it though.

minionMember1. It’s Tai Chi.
2. Yoga and Tai Chi are not the same thing
3. Isn’t it KOMO 4 and Kiro 7?
August 14, 2014 at 7:58 pm #812140
seaopgalParticipantWhere/when did this alleged suspicious activity take place? If it was this morning at the north end of Lincoln Park, I can assure you that it was a totally legitimate tai chi class, and it was perfectly appropriate for the leader to ask you not to interrupt.
Oh, and if you’re really worried about muggers or kidnappers, you would do well to spend more time around people who do tai chi … it is a powerful martial art, which emphasizes self defense.

WSBKeymasterJust noticed this. The only crime risk I can even remotely think of related to yoga/tai chi/other fitness activities in parks – in all my years of covering news (and that’s a LOT of years) – is that you want to be sure your valuables are not left off to the side while you do it. No, fitness activities are NOT a cover for crooks. If someone told you that, please demand that they give you a specific case, place, date, time. Even Googling for it – where you can bring up some insane allegations – isn’t bringing up anything. Thanks – TR

PLSParticipantSpot on, TR. I too was curious about the “well known” and “documented” aspects of this menace to society so I Googled, I Binged, heck I even Yahoo’d the concept and found not a single reference. Even browsed the 60 Minutes and both KIRO and KOMO sites to no avail.

dobroParticipant“so when I see people performing the yoga in public spaces and staring, yes, I do think it’s suspicious.”
Maybe you need to stay inside your house with your binky and your blanky where none of the evil yoga people can harm you.
August 14, 2014 at 9:58 pm #812144
Del GriffithParticipantSorry folks. I’ve taken a nap and now realize there’s a chance I was over-celebrating the coming of Hempfest this morning and was feeling a bit paranoid at the park. It’s likely it was only a yoga session and I should not have felt threatened.
I’m still suspicious, though. It really felt like they were staring at me. Has anyone else experienced this?
August 14, 2014 at 10:19 pm #812145
seaopgalParticipantThanks for explaining, Del Griffith. In tai chi, it is common to fix your gaze on a distant point, so I can see how you might feel that they were staring at you. But people doing tai chi (or yoga) are generally not focused on anything other than their breathing, body, and balance.

MercyMoiParticipantI love this thread and have to give it a bump before it dies on the vine.

CaitParticipantOHHH MY GOD. How did none of us think of the fact that this thread might have been a post Hempfest baby? LOL.
August 19, 2014 at 10:14 pm #812150
acemotelParticipantha ha ha Yes, I had that feeling once, too, about half an hour after eating a nice, rich brownie….
August 19, 2014 at 11:06 pm #812151
seaopgalParticipantIronically, it appears that Cannabis Yoga is a real thing:
Not sure about tai chi …
August 19, 2014 at 11:29 pm #812152
LindseyParticipantLOL Thanks for being such a good sport Del!
I mean, are you really sure there was any yoga at all?! ;)
