OK folks, a little summer fun time for us as we drop in off and on during the epic summer?

Movies that had multiple sequels/prequels (Alien) or were a serials (Bond) or possibly both (Batman). Spinoffs, reboots, and remakes count too. Since almost everything has been remade, we should have lots of things to pick from.

Looking for favorite or most hated of the series.

    Example:

    Fav: Non-Connery Bond – Goldeneye

Worst: Batman Series – Batman & Robin

Horrible: Star Wars – Episode 1 Phantom Menace

    Keep smilin’… :-)

Off the top of my head, one remake I can think of that was pretty awesome was “The Magnificent Seven”, based on Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai”. Very, very different films, yet both are rather…magnificent.

    I’ll think better after dinner…

I used to be a fan of Marvel movies…yeah, I know, not deep. But this has been a bad year IMO. Avengers movie was a disappointment as was Ant-Man. Don’t get me started on the Spider-Man reboot. Won’t see Fantastic Four in the theater.

For the most part, I liked the Mission Impossible movies.

The remake of True Grit was pretty amazing.

There’s so many awful Marvel movies (MCU) that it’s impossible to take it down to just one even if we toss out Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider atrocities. Then there’s all the Trek movies after Generations plus TOS ‘s Trek 5. Add to that pile – both of the recent Superman movies and the unnecessary remake of the Day the Earth Stood Still. I’d probably need a week to determine which one of the Roger Moore movies was the worsts of the lot seeing as Moore’s only peer as a double-naught spy was Jethro Bodine.

I’ll take George Lazenby any day, thank you.

And what of the King(s) Kong?

In the words of Master Yoda, “Meditate on this I must.”

    Tarantino:

    Fav: Pulp fiction

    Worst: Jackie Brown

I think we’re about to see the worst remake ever soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W45zu-WJo3U

Speaking of Phantom Menace: RedLetterMedia’s breakdown of the film’s faults, at 70 minutes, has gotta be a record for a film review but it is much more fun than the actual film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI

Poking hot sticks into your eyeballs is more fun than the actual film dhg! ;-)

I’ll check out that link soon.

And Wes, I gotta’ say I enjoyed some of the characters in Jackie Brown. What didn’t you like about it? 87% Rotten Tomatoes and 7.5 IMDB??

Jackie Brown is one of my favorite Tarantino movies!

And, regarding the Phantom Menace review I’m so enamored with: it should be a staple of screenwriting 101 because it contains a lot of useful, basic info on what makes a movie compelling. (Even if he can’t pronounce protagonist)

    @Wakeflood

It’s not that I didn’t like it, I like all of his movie’s, just my least favorite. I thought the pace of the movie was a little too slow in regards to his other movies.

On a side note I watched The Butler last night and it was great.

I’ve got The Butler on my list for a while now and just need to get on it.

    Random add:

Favorite Movie of an Elmore Leonard novel:

This is hard, as I love several…but I’ll call it a tie (based on my mood) between Out of Sight and Get Shorty.

If you didn’t know how many of his works got made into movies, you really should check it out. Lots of great stuff. Lots.
