I thought the Police might be a little better, more responsive since our tax dollars built the nice precinct here. My house was robbed, I was given a detectives name, called dozens of times, never answered phone or called back. I went to the station at 6:00 pm doors were locked and I could see officers looking out second story window, 20 minutes later a female cop came out and gave me a card of another detective (you know, God forbid I was being attacked out there, in such a lovely area). The other detective did not respond either. Then my car was stolen, recovered 3 later, picked up a damaged, dirty, car with tools, clothing, CD’s that were NOT mine. I asked the officers who were releasing the car at impound if they should dust for prints. They Laughed! The police seem to get great enjoyment out of giving traffic tickets to folks just trying to get to work. Got one for going 9 miles over the limit. Cop was hiding in between two cars on motorcycle. There are too many things to list but the last one was after a Mariner game, a very aggressive pan handler came after me and my 4 year old, I approached a cop and pointed at the guy who was by then accosting others, the cop said to me I can’t do anything I’m about ready to go work the crosswalk. Really?

When did all this happen? If in the past few days, because of the protests downtown/Capitol Hill, police have been on a totally different staffing pattern/alert level citywide, according to the various logistics discussions we’ve heard in the course of our regular scanner monitoring. That *might* have affected responses, including the precinct front desk, which is supposedly open 24 hours a day now (except for one hour at shift change in the middle of the night, precinct commander Capt. Steve Wilske said at the most recent Crime Prevention Council meeting).

If not, I would suggest you try contacting Capt. Wilske and/or file a formal complaint: http://www.seattle.gov/opa/how-to-file-a-complaint

This has been flagged for our review.

I hope that my original suggestion might have pointed the OP in a constructive direction for her/his concerns.

Please don’t belittle people, whether they are new participants or not-so-new. It’s rather a miracle – given a variety of factors including our technical challenges and the tendency to splinter off into social-media silos – that people keep joining, and as I’ve mentioned previously, this is a section of the site whose existence we vigorously defend, despite it not being necessary to the main mission of thorough West Seattle news coverage – we feel it’s vital to have an area where people can introduce topics for discussion, or post announcements, regardless of whether they relate to a main-page news story.

If you see a post-er, new or otherwise, who you think is suspicious for some reason (or rulebreaking), please e-mail us and let us deal with it. editor@westseattleblog.com While the OP here indeed rambled, there was nothing rulebreaking about it, or my reaction would have been different.

Thank you again for being here. Please respect others’ rights to jump in too; the more who participate, the better the discussion is, the more information is made available, and the more likely it is that this little corner of what’s left of the open web will survive.

    Hi Hedda,

I am really sorry for your recent streak of bad luck. Being a victim of crime (and subsequent bullying) is really a terrible thing.

Velo was way out of line. How about innocent till proven guilty? If Hedda Lettuce is indeed b.s.ing us, then your farts (ugh!) might be justified. But please don’t make assumptions just because you are attempting to be witty and snarky.

    .

No “attempting” about it… I WAS being witty and snarky.

I don’t find the OPs post at all “BS” or nonsensical gibberish because we have had the same thing happen to us. We were burglarized, reported it immediately, a policeman came out and wrote a report, and a week later, we got a call from them that they had closed the claim “due to lack of evidence”!

There were latex gloves (that could have been fingerprinted from the inside)left over, a busted in door, a place where the intruders must have sat down and sorted items, shoeprints in the carpet, etc.

I called the detective who left that message to us, but never got a return call. I went to the precinct and was told there was nothing they could do. We had a lot of family issues going on at the same time, so I couldn’t pursue challenging this as I had wanted. What other evidence do they need? We gave them a very detailed listing and pictures of what was taken.

We have also had a car broken into in front of out house and were told there was nothing they could do. It turned out our stuff that was stolen from our car was found in another stolen car — found by the owner of that car, not the police — and those owners called us as they had found our name and phone number among the stolen items in their car.

And, I too have been pulled over for going 4 miles over the speed limit! I was granted a warning.

When my parked car was hit downtown as I was standing next to it trying to get in the driver door, the first thing the policeman asked me was “were you jaywalking?” REALLY???
