celeste17ParticipantWell now that the Water taxi will be running all day I will take it over to downtown and walk down and watch them erect the ferris wheel. It will be a good walk to do with Mom.

dhgParticipant70 years after the invention of the ferris wheel at the Chicago World’s Fair, Seattle hosts its own World’s fair. And now, 120 years after its invention, we have a modern replica. Bravo. It is not exactly the London Eye but it will do.

cjboffoliParticipantAs I was reading it I was kind of hoping it was an article from The Onion. But no such luck. This wouldn’t exactly be my first choice of things to augment the downtown waterfront. In fact, it probably wouldn’t be my 12,358th thing either.

clark5080Participantit is going to be something like 15 to 20 dollars for a ride
April 13, 2012 at 7:48 am #754832
JanSParticipantI am afeared o’ heights…so I’ll be keeping my money :D
April 13, 2012 at 1:27 pm #754833
redblackParticipantyeah, boffoli, i thought it was odd, too. which is why i was mildly bemused that no one was talking about it.
but if you’ve ever been parasailing on the waterfront, i imagine this will be a similar experience.
April 13, 2012 at 1:28 pm #754834
JoBParticipantParking would do more to draw traffic to the waterfront than a ferris wheel…
but i am pretty sure that in spite of my fear of heights i will be taking a ride once it’s up.
i have grandchildren.

GinaParticipantCool!
April 13, 2012 at 5:31 pm #754836
JanSParticipantredblack..I was just thinking about how it will be at the top of the ferris wheel on a windy day…parasailing, indeed – lol…

miwsParticipantSpeaking of the Water Taxi; if they relocated it’s Seattle side dock to Waterfront Park where the Ferris wheel is going up, they could then rig a gondola ride from there to the Market.

GinaParticipantAnd if a super slide was placed alongside Queen Anne Ave, could call it the Counterbalance–and forget the Rapid Ride!

DianeParticipantmany of us have been talking about this on Facebook every since it was permitted a while back; and we’re very excited; it’ll be great for tourism/our economy and waterfront businesses who have been hurting with all the road construction and loss of parking

I don’t mind heights at all and will ride at least once; but it is VERY pricey; this will be a wonderful addition to our waterfront; and I’m grateful to the owners of Pier 57 for financing this project

ElizabethElaineParticipantIt’s going to be $12 a ride, with heated/air conditioned gondolas. That sounds reasonable for something so magical! I can’t wait!
April 13, 2012 at 10:03 pm #754841
DianeParticipantthanks ElizabethElaine; agree, it sounds magical
April 13, 2012 at 11:48 pm #754842
dhgParticipantMagical? I don’t think I’d call it magical… unless… when you ride it at night and they put lights down below puget sound and giant fishes show up and the gondola has a glass floor so we’re hovering over giant 6-gill sharks. THAT would be magical.

JoBParticipantApril 14, 2012 at 3:38 pm #754844
redblackParticipantdhg: or if the bottom of the rotation takes riders under water (in watertight gondolas, of course.) sort of a land, sea, air experience…
April 14, 2012 at 5:24 pm #754845
smokeycretin9Participantdont wanna be on that when the big one hits.
