metrognomeParticipantif that’s the new light rail system that some people think can use the old RR bridge over the Duwamish downstream from there, I think we still have some work to do …
other than that, I don’t get it …

KevinParticipantAnd speaking of the old RR bridge – does anyone know when it is most likely to be going up and down? I would love to get a few pictures of it down some day.

lindaParticipantThe only time I have seen this bridge down is after APL is done loading containers to rail cars in their facility in West Seattle. There is probably a way to get an approximate time frame by checking out APL’s scheduled vessel arrivals in Seattle and then either the UP or BN (can’t recall right now which railroad uses this bridge)schedules for departures from the Seattle area. I’m going to guess the rail cars from APL are taken to the main railroad yards where they are hooked up to move beyond Seattle to their destination. So they would need to leave the APL yard prior to a Seattle departure by anywhere from same day to two to three days. (I used to work tracking cargo moving on the railroads and currently work for a ocean freight transportation company, thus the guess work.)

waynsterParticipantBNSF owns the RR bridge. Used to watch it from grandparents house from the stairs on the back side of pigeon point. Also the old spokane street bridge raise up and down from where the old air raid siren was located.

metrognomeParticipantaccording to this site, the bridge is ‘closed to all traffic.’

not sure where they got their info tho as this picture seems to show that bridge with a locomotive going across it in 2009:
and then there is this pic with the bridge in the vertical position:
