hollyplaceParticipantI just wanted to give a compliment to Target for enlarging their parking spaces. Yipee!
October 14, 2009 at 2:33 am #679743
MargLMemberOMG – seriously? That was the worst part about shopping there! Yippee indeed!
October 14, 2009 at 3:16 am #679744
hollyplaceParticipantI know this is a little bit sad that this is exciting in my world!
October 14, 2009 at 3:20 am #679745
JoBParticipantit’s exciting in mine too.. i avoided going there today because i didn’t want to deal with the parking.
October 14, 2009 at 3:27 am #679746
raindance42MemberI was pleased to see it also! It always seemed like there were a lot of open spaces even when busy since so many trucks and SUVs had to park over the line to fit. A welcome change.

BonnieParticipantI am so glad that they repainted their handicapped parking because I had been parking there not realizing it was really handicapped parking. I would never have parked there if I knew! Anyway, so glad that it is repainted. I thought since the sign wasn’t there on the sidewalk it wasn’t.

GoGoParticipantI thought I was imagining things last time I parked there, since I didn’t have to squeeze in. Now if we could get the lot behind the liquor store on California to do the same.
October 14, 2009 at 4:29 pm #679749
swimcatMemberI noticed this Monday night when I stopped at Target to get a few things. I was super excited too! Every time I shopped there I worried about door dings so I always had to park super far away.
October 14, 2009 at 5:01 pm #679750
Fancy NanParticipantGreat news. Hopefully the owners at Jefferson Square will get a clue and do the same. With less people shopping at Safeway these days, there’s certainly more room for less-tight parking spaces at Jeff. Sq.

squareeyesParticipantNot intending to threadjack but I recently asked one of the checkers at the JS Safeway if they’ve had a decline in shoppers since QFC opened and she indicated there was a brief decline, but that the shoppers are coming back.

squareeyesParticipantBack to the original topic – this is good news. I haven’t been to Target in a few weeks, but I very much look forward to checking out the improved parking situation.
October 14, 2009 at 7:22 pm #679753
flowerpetalMemberPlease call Target and tell them. I just did so at 932-1153. Skip the message by hitting zero and you will get directly to the store operator who will relay your praise to the store manager.
October 14, 2009 at 7:29 pm #679754
JoBParticipantwhat a great idea.
October 14, 2009 at 7:31 pm #679755
flowerpetalMemberI believe we should follow up with businesses on raves just like we do with rants.
October 14, 2009 at 7:35 pm #679756
CMPParticipantI haven’t been to Westwood Village in awhile but I think the landlord of the shopping center might have been the reason it was restriped with bigger spaces. I always parked far away by Chase Bank b/c the spaces were bigger over there anyway. Regardless, this is good news and I hope Jefferson Square will do the same but I doubt it. I swear they just restriped their lot so they probably won’t do it again for another five years.
October 14, 2009 at 7:43 pm #679757
flowerpetalMemberYou might be correct that its the landlord; but the other parking spaces at Westwood were never that narrow. I’m guessing that the manager at Target will pay it forward if it is the property manager who needs to be thanked.

KBearParticipantJefferson Square ought to be doing any little thing they can to lure customers at this point. Short of tearing it down and rebuilding with a reasonable parking arrangement, I would think re-striping the upper lot would be a cost-effective investment. (Of course, it would help if drivers had the patience, skill, and courtesy to actually park between the lines.)
October 14, 2009 at 8:04 pm #679759
CMPParticipantIs it lack of skill or courtesy that causes people to park over the lines in a parking lot? Or do horrible parallel parking jobs? I always wonder about that, as I’d be embarrassed to park my car like such an a$$hole. Please clue me in to this Seattle phenomenon (sp). Speaking of bad parking lot striping, Rite Aid on California is up there with Jefferson Square. It was repaved/restriped recently and they did it the exact same way as before which is horrible.

LaconiqueMemberOh good. I was going to get a smaller, more energy efficient car, but now I can just stick with my Escalade and continue to shop at Target! Yay!
October 14, 2009 at 11:00 pm #679761
JenVMemberam I the only person who has never had an issue parking at Target? I drive a mid-size sedan. Never had an issue – well, the whole parking lot is a clusterpluck, but that’s my only issue.
October 15, 2009 at 12:36 am #679762
hollyplaceParticipantJenV – I have a mid-size sedan also, but trying to get a baby in and out of the rear car door in the carrier was almost next to impossible if someone squeezed their car in and were on top of the line.
October 15, 2009 at 12:46 am #679763
sam-cParticipantwe usually just parked over near the bank.
our car used to fit in the old spaces just fine, it’s just usually someone who can’t park was over the line, on top of the line. you might park with room on one side and none on the other, only to come back out and find that due to some other moron’s parking job- you now have no room on either side. any yes, you can usually squeeze in, but no, not if you are putting a tot in a car seat.

Synergy3kMemberI honestly think Seattle in general has tiny parking spaces. Target was a nightmare until recently, the Safeway ones make me nervous, and don’t even get me started on the spots at All Star Fitness. I’ve lived in Wisconsin and Rhode Island, but I think Seattle wins the tiny parking space award. I drive a smaller car (Ion) but I’m a nervous parker here. It’s way too easy to door someone by accident in a lot of the lots here!
October 15, 2009 at 5:45 pm #679765
swimcatMemberSynergy3k, if you ever stay in the village at Whistler, you’ll see even narrower parking spots. It’s pretty amazing that so many SUV’s can fit in those spots.
I agree with other posters, Jeff Sq needs to be restriped. That whole parking lot is pretty hopeless, but it could be marginally improved if they made the spaces wider.

Square One BooksMemberI have forwarded the link to this thread to the Property Manager at Jefferson Square so that at least they are aware of what people would like to see in our lot.
